Girl swept away by flood tells of ordeal
Mom says both saved by God (A.P 7/19/03)…the pigtailed 12-year-old… recalled how her family’s mobile home was swept away by flash floods…. Rescuers found Theresa nearly three miles down Prather Creek from where she slipped out of her mother’s grasp in Loretto on June 17. She suffered severe injuries, including an open break in her left leg and an infection in both legs.
Mary Hartley said divine intervention is the only reason she and her daughter are alive… “(The house) was split wide open. We were holding onto each other… Then (the water) took her down the creek and it pulled me under the house, so we were separated. We prayed to God to help us through this and to keep us safe, and he did.”
