Lobbying for Humanism

26 May 2004 by Ron

Hey, go figure — a kind of decent newspaper piece on the (allegedly) lone legislative lobbyist for humanism in the nation, lobbying the NY State Legislature. A reasonable, almost positive account of the good guys. Instead of accusing us of baby-eating and goat-fucking, we get such sensible bits as “Humanists believe people exist independent of a God or greater power and that decent behavior is an end in itself and not a means to achieve reward or avoid punishment in an afterlife. Politically, Gordinier said, humanists want to see laws based on the greater good, not religious belief.”
