Commentary, news, and rants on the evils and stupidity of belief in the big invisible daddy in the sky. Illuminating and watchdogging the widespread attempts to institutionalize the theocratic rule of the US. Making fun of believers everywhere.
Looks like some Colorado Park Trustee was recalled after he didn’t stand for the pledge. Said the phrase “under God” offended him (which really pissed off probably every xian in the room), and now they ousted his ass. Read about it here and here, and see the sample ballot here.
Hey, everyone is free to think how they want. They just have to ACT like they think how the majority feels. That’s what the Constitution MEANT, clearly. And that’s exactly what I’m going to say in my email to these good ol’ fashioned god-fearin bible-thumpin city officials. Here’s their web site: http://www.estesnet.com/TownClerk/MayorTrustees/default.htm.
It never ceases to amaze me that a politician can be as inept, stupid, and oblivious to the Constitution and principles of government as long as he or she recites that pledge of allegiance, BY GOLLY! Now, THAT is what is important. — Geez!
I can’t help but think that our founders would cringe at the notion of expressing blind obedience to a freakin’ flag with zero regard for governing principles. Sad.
Did anyone else notice … that the entire city government is all white? I’m sure it’s just a coincidence … and that they’re not really racist bastards on top of being mindless jingoist xenophobes.
It goes to show that the one thing you can’t be in american politics is ambivalent about religion. Drug user, wife beater, embezzler, or utterly inept- these can be forgiven if you have the right sound-bites. Agnostic and honest about it? No way!
I live about 30 minutes from Estes Park in Colorado. It is a tourist trap getaway in the local mountains. Population about 10,000. Mostly white rich people with second homes that live up there part time but more and more are living there fulltime. Typical main street walking, shopping, buying tourist crap town. The under god or pledge is required to be said at each gov’t meeting. This only started about a year ago as a requirement. The recall was started by a husband of one of the city gov’t officials. Vote was 900 to 600 to remove him.
What an embarassment to Colorado (which is turning more blue than red by the year).

Wow, Frank. How utterly cosmopolitan of you to come down on our side … (wink, wink). But I’m sure that they are positively fabulous Southern Baptists!
