Commentary, news, and rants on the evils and stupidity of belief in the big invisible daddy in the sky. Illuminating and watchdogging the widespread attempts to institutionalize the theocratic rule of the US. Making fun of believers everywhere.

"Food and shelter"? I'll remember to book a room for the next fetus I see. I am an atheist conservative and must say that I hate to be affiliated with a group that is pro-life/anti-abortion. I too 'wish' that religion and politics were like oil and water.

Is a comprimise too hard? Allow stem-cell research and abortions 'up to' a certain amount of time. I might be pro-choice, but not towards partial-birth abortions.

Sorry. A fertilized egg doesn't constitute a human. Otherwise, the thousands of fertilized eggs from fertility clinics wouldn't be thrown away.

RE: "But the only explanation for legislators comparing cells in a petri dish
to babies in the womb is the extension of religious doctrine into statutory law.”

He obviously wasn't paying attention in biology class. Its basic science. The cells
are the same, no matter the location. Once fertilized, they constitute a human and
given food and shelter, will grow up. Gee, How do people like Danforth get elected
when they can't even understand things taught to kids?!

Also, I agree that we need at least a 3rd party. To bad the 2 rich biggies, thats
Dems and Reps, are constantly finding ways to stifle the competition.

... ah, politics & religion... one would think their like oil & water... problem is, their more like Kool-Ade... once mixed, almost impossible to separate...
... I find it difficult being an atheist conservative... I get flak from all sides... one denegrate my party & the other denegrates belief system...
... there is an assumption that anyone that is pro-life (anti-abortion if you like), supports the war in Iraq, or doesn't think GW is a dufus, must be a Christian... or, that as a conservative, I should support prayer in schools, 10 commandment displays, nativity scenes on public property, etc...
... of course, I'm guilty of this as well... for example, I've don't understand how Christians rectify their pro-life stance with a party that supports abortion... i.e. how can one be a Christian liberal...
... I sure wish we could separate religion from politics, but, I don't think it's possible... our beliefs drive our decisions... fortunately, sometimes, decisions made for religious reasons, I happen to agree with...
... I think we need a 3rd party...

Danforth had a lot of interesting things to say, and it's about damn time someone in the Republican party stood up and spoke the truth about the "religious right" take-over.

Nice bit: In America, everyone has the right to try to influence political issues, regardless of his religious motivations.

(I might have added "or lack thereof at the end of that sentence, but that's just me.) The idea of freedom of speech is what the wing nuts always seem to forget--in a free society, people who think differently may enjoy Constitutionally-protected free speech. What happened to that? When did it become "my way and only my way--me and mine may enjoy free speech, but you and yours can get out of the country and then go to hell"?

Something I disagree with, however: The historic principles of the Republican Party offer America its best hope for a prosperous and secure future. Our current fixation on a religious agenda has turned us in the wrong direction. It is time for Republicans to rediscover our roots.

Actually, what is best for America is a multi-party system. If ever we become essentially one party is when it's truly over folks. Diversity is good. Different ideas are OK. It's all about the dialogue, folks. Embrace it.
