Easter Carnival

27 March 2005

The new Carnival of the Godless is up over at yeah whatever, including Bob’s A Little Logic post — which, I’m afraid, gets misinterpreted a bit (although I liked the “God is bigger than logic” bit). Lots of godless fun.

More Schiavo Players

26 March 2005

Wow, Schiavo’s just all the rage. Now they’re comparing her to Jesus:

Demonstrators camped outside the Pinellas Park, Fla., hospice where Mrs. Schiavo is a patient have posted numerous signs comparing her ordeal to Christ’s last 12 hours.

One, titled “Good Friday in America 2005,” states, “Husband = Judas; Court = Sanhedrin, Jeb = Pilate, Bush = Caesar, Judge = Herod,” the latter referring to Pinellas County Circuit Judge Greer who has repeatedly denied legal attempts by the Schindler family to reinsert a feeding tube that was removed March 18 from Mrs. Schiavo.

And, yes, they even got John Edward to tell us that:

…she’s clear on what’s going — and I can tell you that she’s definitely clear on what’s happening now around her.

Bush supports Satanism

22 March 2005

The current case before the Supremes on religious practice among prison inmates is an interestingly mixed-up bunch of interests.

The Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 requires states that receive federal money to allow prisoners to practice their religions unless the government can show some compelling reason (of, say, safety) to constrain that religious practice. Now, on the surface, this seems like a law that grants to those with some religion “a right that no atheist or agnostic can enjoy” — as Justice Stevens put it in striking down the earlier “Religious Freedoms Restoration Act”.

As is typical, nobody much gives a shit about that, though. But what they do give a shit about is when “non-standard” religions want equal consideration along with the big monotheisms. So, in the current case in Ohio, some prisoners — including a Wiccan and a Satanist — claimed that they were denied access to “religious literature, ceremonial items and time to worship”. Ohio didn’t want to accommodate this (even though they hadn’t minded when it was Xian bible study) and argued that “although intended to protect the rights of prisoners, the law amounts to an unconstitutional government promotion of religion” — getting it right, but for the wrong reason.

But then, what’s new about that? The J-People are always trying to tear down the wall of separation, and often the only way to get them to back off is to show them how the non-Xians get the goods too — and they surely didn’t really want that.

But now, for consistency, we have the Bush/Gonzales DoJ arguing on the side of the Satanists. Which, however this turns out, makes it all kind of worth it. I mean, I know politics make strange bedfellows, but even I couldn’t dare to hope that they could turn the Bush/Gonzales DoJ into the punk ho of some Wiccans and Satanists.

Here’s a bunch of news coverage.

Terry Schiavo is already dead, you fucking morons

21 March 2005

These right-wing theocratic ass-wipes, from Bush on down, should be fucking ashamed of themselves; but instead, they think they are righteously supporting a “culture of life” (which I hear they’re trying out as a new ‘Publican slogan). Once again, they intervene in the attempt to allow her body to follow her brain into the big sleep, and plug the tubes back in. (Congress, Bush OK law meant to prolong life of brain-damaged Florida woman) And the Publicans call their legislative overreaching into the territory of the judiciary a “Palm Sunday Compromise”, in case you were unclear on the role religious bullshit is playing here.

The assholes claim that “Schiavo’s failure to draft a living will makes it impossible to know her wishes, and therefore it is essential that the government help her stay alive”. Of course, her husband and legal guardian, Michael Schiavo, both should have the power to decide, and had conversations with her before her incapacitation where she indicated that she would not want to continue living as she is now; the Florida courts have repeatedly supported him, and the Supremes have declined to hear appeals of those rulings. And to his credit, Michael Schiavo has stood his ground on his wife’s behalf, reportedly turning down offers for as much as $10million to withdraw and let the parents “save” Terry’s empty shell.

I hate the fucking ‘Publicans more every day. And boy, am I glad my wife and I both have the living wills — let this be a lesson to you all to write it down, lest the Soldiers of God decide to save your empty almost-corpse as well. And let me say it in public: If I get anywhere near Terry Schiavo land, TURN OUT THE BIG LIGHT.loans credit poor 10000stated income loan 115education loan k 12loan educational 12 kresidential 125 loanpercent consolidation 150 loans billindustry loan 1980s and savings1st load 2nd vs loanmarch loan 2006 post followupno 30 check credit 000 loanfree movies nude celebrityhomemade webcam moviestheatres amc movielolita fuck moviesmovie pam lee tommyfree voyeur movieskrystal movies steal freegranny movies fucking Mapcasino merchant card credit free account7 casino park fearthers rvameristar casino iowaloage casino pa airyflights vegas las casino airline3d blackjack casinoweb site restaurant 89074 casinogambling 1920 s Map

Not exactly sure if the FWD actually works on this one: Toddler shot by brother, four

A two-year-old boy was in a critical condition last night after being shot in the head by his four-year-old brother with their mother’s handgun.

Police said the shooting in Houston, Texas, happened after the younger boy threw a toy at his brother.

The pair went to their mother’s bedroom where, in a fit of anger, the older child grabbed the .32 semi-automatic from his mother’s handbag, put it to his brother’s head and fired.

The bullet entered one of his temples and came out the other side of his head.

I’m sure the xians in the audience could provide some insight to the mental musings of a four-year old child. It’s also quite amazing (in this particular context) to see how easy it would have been to simply intervene and stop such an event from happening in the first place. But, in the end, it’s clearly all me, choosing and refusing to see.teen nn asianlactating breasts storyhairy tiffany atknatural atkpissing lesbian galeryvideos miltons handjob amiturebukkake lotia asiannude babes sleeping voyeur Map

Discrimi-Xian-Nation

13 March 2005

And for the flip-side of Oregon:

Judge orders UNC to recognize Christian fraternity

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill must recognize a three-member Christian fraternity as it challenges the school’s nondiscrimination policy, a judge has ruled. [...] Alpha Iota Omega was stripped of its status as an official campus group because the fraternity wouldn’t accept nonbelievers or gay students or sign the school’s nondiscrimination policy. Recognition gives the fraternity access to student funds and university facilities. The fraternity sued last year, saying the university had violated the members’ constitutional rights to free speech, free assembly and free exercise of religion. In his order, Bullock wrote that the university’s policy “raises significant constitutional concerns and could be violative of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.” The fraternity’s attorneys say they hope to force the university to rewrite its policy for recognizing student groups.

Yes, let’s rewrite the policy now, shall we? Let’s rewrite the policy to say that any group that discriminates against sexual orientation will be subject to disciplinary action — unless, of course, you’re a xian group. If you’re a xian group on campus, then you have the right to not allow members because they’re gay (even if they’re xian).

Just can’t wait to see that rewrite when they’re done.anal sex movieskobe movies free taiprivate moviesmovies twinkbbw free moviesdaily sex movies freefree bus movies bangmovies amature Map

Kicking more Boy Scout butt

11 March 2005

A bit of good news: Courts back Atheist Mother in Scout Case. The Oregon Court of Appeals ruled that the Portland School District seems to have discriminated against an atheist student by allowing the Boy Scouts to recruit on campus. :

…the child’s atheist mother… felt the school’s sponsorship of the group, whose oath requires a belief in God, runs afoul of the establishment clause… The mother had filed and lost a similar suit filed in 1998. “There is substantial evidence that, by giving the Scouts the access that it does, the district treats those students who are eligible to join the Scouts differently from those who are not,” the appeals court said.
