So, there’s this site called National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, and it tries to say some non-threatening stuff:

The curriculum for the program shows a concern to convey the content of the Bible as compared to literature and history. The program is concerned with education rather than indoctrination of students. The central approach of the class is simply to study the Bible as a foundation document of society, and that approach is altogether appropriate in a comprehensive program of secular education.

But I’m sure there’s no long-term goal for any of this.

An interesting story about the FWD and intervention (because we all know that if the Big Guy gave a fuck about us enough to actually intervene, we’d all just be robots and puppets in the end — so, better to hang back and let us do whatever):

Police: Boy, 5, Beaten to Death

An autopsy is planned today in Indianapolis for a 5-year-old Jennings County boy who authorities say was beaten to death at his home. [...] Taggart said Samuel suffered massive head injuries, a broken elbow and severe bruising all over his body. [...] “We take any death very seriously and very personal. But when it involves a child and a homicide, it cuts at your gut,” Taggart said today.

Cuts at your gut? Oh, I’m sure there’s no doubt about that (to put it mildly). “But,” comes the reply, “even though God can control us, He simply chooses not to for some higher purpose” (which, one assumes, is beyond our limited understanding, since we, as humans — even though we clearly value freedom — never viewed freedom as an absolute value, considering the obvious fact that we actually have laws for stuff like this). But this higher purpose, even though we have no idea what it is, is still praiseworthy. Praise God!

For those of us who are fucking annoyed with the enormous and nauseating catholic-suck-ass media coverage since the death of the pope to the mega-secret pope selection process (where we all wait with breathless anticipation for a white-smoke-two-thirds-majority-vote), I found this nice piece from The Revealer:

My contention here is that the schizophrenic character of the media is a reflection of the culture it serves, and that this culture typifies an adolescent stage of political development. In other words, I am contending that reverence and rudeness are signs of, and compensation for, a lack of real power and intellectual freedom. [...] A free media fit to serve a free people will have little need of either reverence or scurrility. It will know how to remove its hat in a basilica and how to keep its head at the death of a pope. It will not provide a breast to every voyeur who drools for one; neither will it be overly sidetracked by the alleged “obscenity” of Janet Jackson’s breast. It will not disport itself like the schoolyard apestrut who bruises an arm whenever he can get away with it and then displays a few tears for the sake of the girls who find sensitivity appealing in a thug.

Man, this really cracked me up. Seems as though they got a hold of some audio clips of Warren Jeffs. The racism and the sexism was expected, but it’s always cool to hear them connect this stuff up to scripture for the full effect. Makes those Mormons look like some REALLY intelligent folks.
