Mudslide wipes out Philippine village; 23 confirmed dead, 1,500 missing
MANILA, Philippines (AP) - A rain-soaked mountainside disintegrated into a torrent of mud, swallowing hundreds of houses and an elementary school in the eastern Philippines on Friday. Officials said 23 people were confirmed dead, but 1,500 were missing and there were fears the death toll might soar. [...] Education officials said 200 students, six teachers and the principal were believed to have been there. Senator Richard Gordon, head of the Philippine Red Cross, issued the casualty estimates and made an international appeal for aid. The provincial governor asked for people to dig by hand, saying the mud was too soft for heavy equipment. [...] “Let us all pray for those who perished and were affected by this tragedy,” President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said in a statement.

Another act of God! And so our president (Arroyo) once again, without fail, predictable as the tides, calls upon us to beam our wishes to the Great Invisible One.
How about praying to Him *before* all these natural evils strike, and ask him to spare his people? Sounds more proactive to me. (by the way 90% of Filipinos are Christians)
Oh I forget. His ways are mysterious. People suffer and die as if there isn’t any omnibenevolent and omnipotent saviour in the sky. But there really is someone up there. You just have to believe!

Given their standard refrain for the problem of Evil, I’d love to see some dumbass christian try to justify how man’s sin, choice, and/or free will caused this to happen.

Well just imagine how many people would have died if God hadn’t been present. Lucky he was eh?

Where’s Pat Robertson? Paging Pat Robertson…we need a “pull it out of your ass” excuse for why this happened.
Maybe god got confused…he thought Dover was in the Philippines, not Pennsylvania.

Sounds more proactive to me.
Well, if you consider praying to be doing something.

Again with the word “miracle”:
Philippine Rescue Crews Hope for Miracle
Was the landslide itself a miracle?

Hey! This gives me an idea. Someone should write a web filter for the major news sites like cnn, reuters and bbc that detects articles about natural disasters and bad shit happening and, in the interest of accurate reporting, assigns the appropriate blame. “Landslide in Philiphines kills thousands” => “God’s landslide in philipines kills thousands”. At the end of the day, we can tally up the good and bad and decide exactly who god loves…this week.

So you gonna write it Steve?

(Editor’s Note: I almost killed this in moderation as an obvious violation of the comment policy, but somehow, its pure idiocy brought me a smile. So, I pass it along, in the hope it will bring some of you a smile as well. Other than this preamble, it is unedited.)
You, fooled by the devil! NO matter how you derides the truth of God’s existence by the evils that are happening around the world, it can never in anyway make you better individuals. It is because you excused yourself (and humankind in general) from personal responsibility of your actions and decisions that you dared to make God liable of the evil consequences of your fooly. Do you think you can eternally mock God and not perish? Can you add a single minute to your life? The world is full of evil; we can see devastations everyday. What hope could we have to escape this world of corruption if God doesn’t exist? C’mon. be honest, be real -atheism doesn’t make sense! Will atheism help eradicate the mishaps we have in this life? NO way! It rests on nothing. Come to Jesus and be free from Satan’s deception.

rolie,
You certainly push the envelope of sanity.

My “fooly”??
I think we have some new GifS terminology here.
Spare me from the fooly of fools like this.

I like those “Editor’s Note” thingies. It actually makes the post funnier.

“Do you think you can eternally mock God and not perish?”
Well, no. I don’t believe in eternal life and I know I will die. And I’m ok with that. I also don’t think God is liable for the consequences of my fooly. Only I am to blame for my fooly. That’s why it’s mine. I’m also responsible for my cooly, but that’s a topic for another time.

“You, fooled by the devil! NO matter how you derides the truth of god’s existence by the evils that are happening around the world”
Yeah and all you base are belong to us
“What hope could we have to escape this world of corruption if god doesn’t exist?”
Kicking warmongering religious fanatic dubya dumbass and his crap cronies out of office would be a good start.
Why is it that all of the religious fanatics seem to have little command of the English language ? Also don’t these stupid kooks realize that atheists do NOT believe in a god, devil or jeebus. Plus like it or not everyone will die regardless of their “fooly”

“Yeah and all you base are belong to us”
Fucking hilarious dude. Good one.

When I read peoples responding like Rolie. I always think of that scene in Midnight Cowboy with the Jesus freak. LOL. Good stuff. I have a verry vivid imagination and imagine rolie standing there pointing his /her finger YOU ….FOOOLEEDDD BY THE DEVIL. Old time revivalist preacher style. I don’t know why I do that but it sure puts a smile on my face and I can even enjoy that type of madness in some other person. Glad it’s not me.
Steve if you have the chops to put something like that together I would love to help. I already have been doing some tally on number of lives not taken by childhood disease due to immunizations. You could put the tally…..
God 1500 dead in Phillipines. Billions remain polio free and in good health.
Something like that.
The National Council of Churches just grew some juevos. They state that the Bush Admin is reigning down terror in Iran. It’s about time!!!Maybe there is hope.
