Pardon Me While I Purge
1 October 2006 by Raindogzilla
This may come out like the written form of projectile vomit as I’m so filled with bile and spleen that I may just be eaten alive from the inside out.
It’s bad enough that Dear Leader, a man spellbound by “The Pet Goat“, will now be in charge of interpreting the Geneva Convention, bad enough that his lapdog congressional majority- including the so-called mavericks like McCain, provided the rubberstamp for him, and bad enough- maybe worse, that the pathetic Democrats not only couldn’t muster the spine to filibuster but that some of them even voted “Aye”. Now, I hear justifiably pissed off liberals screaming for the heads of the Vichy Dems who caved, making noises about voting against them, voting some ridiculous third party, or, worse, not voting at all. They fail to understand that the shortcomings and mistakes of these incumbents can be dealt with, should be dealt with, after we rid ourselves of the rotten, bloated Repiglickin’ majority that’s metastasizing exponentially in the heart of this country.
I’m just blown away that, given the reckless homicide writ large that is Iraq, given the endlessly documented dishonesty of this administration, given the indictments of Abramoff, Duke Cunningham, David Safavian, Claude Allen, and Bob Ney- with Conrad Burns, Katherine Harris, and, now, Mark Foley on deck, and given the NIE news that, surprise!, Georgie’s Global War On Terror is actually making new lunatics that hate us, given all that garbage, these midterm elections are even competitive. Sure, I blame the Dems for failing to come up with a well-articulated vision to offer as an alternative but, in the minority, there was not a whole lot they could do.
I blame religion, the lack of intellectual curiousity that allows people to swallow the bilge that emanates from the likes of Dobson, Robertson, Ted Haggard, Ron Luce, and Becky Fischer, that lets thirty-five, or so, percent of Americans take the divinity of George W. Bush’s presidency seriously- or, at least, support him like they do. I blame so-called “Christians” that can reconcile corruption, incompetence, hatred, bigotry, intolerance, and even torture with their supposed Prince of Peace. I blame their moderate co-religionists who can’t or won’t stand up and reel these whacko fucks back to, if not fullblown reality, a harmless delusion. I blame proponents of the ironically named Intelligent Design- and it’s retarded cousin, Creationism, that threaten this nation’s already dwindling supply of the scientifically literate by trying to foist off their fairy tales on the public education system. I blame the sexually repressed, who spread STDs and teen pregnancy by proxy through their campaigns to insert the same sticks they have up their asses up the asses of the world. Right now, I can’t even find the humor in the increasing abortion rate that results from the abstinence-only crowd.
So, please, wait until 2008 to take it out on the invertebrate Democrats in Congress and get out the motherfucking vote come Nov. 6th. Oh, and next time you see a car with that insipid “W” sticker, rear-end the sons of bitches.
Rant over.

I just watched a program about the US Coalition’s mishandling of $23 billion for reconstruction of Iraq. In the documentary a baby girl died as a result of the lack of resources and equipment required by the Iraqi medical team to save her life. The father had to go out to the black market to buy Vitamin K! They placed her in a cardboard box to bury her. What the fuck did those Coalition-contracted companies do with all that money? Padded their own wallets and the wallets of their friends!
There’s not enough vomit in the world to spew!

Lynda, the Coalition Provisional Authority was staffed with incompetent ideologues selected by one Jim O’Beirne;
“After the fall of Saddam Hussein’s government in April 2003, the opportunity to participate in the U.S.-led effort to reconstruct Iraq attracted all manner of Americans — restless professionals, Arabic-speaking academics, development specialists and war-zone adventurers. But before they could go to Baghdad, they had to get past Jim O’Beirne’s office in the Pentagon.
To pass muster with O’Beirne, a political appointee who screens prospective political appointees for Defense Department posts, applicants didn’t need to be experts in the Middle East or in post-conflict reconstruction. What seemed most important was loyalty to the Bush administration.”
Jim is the husband of antifeminist harridan, Kate O’Beirne, author of Women Who Make the World Worse.
I think a 24 year old College Republican was in charge of restarting the Iraqi Stock Exchange. Another prizewinner was the daughter of conservative wingnut, Michael Ledeen. Fucking cronyism, incompetence, and greed- just like FEMA and Katrina. Someone really needs to pay with their life for this level of evil- evil like a sociopath, not a devil.

Election day is November 7th, as far as I know. Although voting early by absentee ballot would be a good idea too. I’m optimistic that “Watchnj” is being sarcastic in his comment, nice play on profit= prophet

I’d like to point out that the controlling republican party was ignoring warnings about 911 in the 9 months preceeding it while gutting environmental legislation and playing golf. And please, don’t vote for a third party, it’s exactly what the republicans would want.

I’ve yet to meet Mr. Evans, though I did recently have the pleasure of meating his wife at the annual sausage fest up here in wi. I have invested very heavily in his company though, and I’ve been very happy with how it has done and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy.

Kick ass rant, RDZ.
May we all overcome this truly dark period in our country’s history.
2 October 2006, on 9:29 am
Don’t expect anything to change. Now that those Diebold voting machines are out there in I don’t know how many counties, the Republicans are sure to get another victory.
And no matter how many of us will cry fraud, nothing will be done. How much media attention has been given to the 2004 fraud? ZERO.
And even then, I trust the Democrats about as much as I trust the Republicans. You honestly think they’ll give up the amount of power Bush has drawn into himself? That they’ll turn around and get rid of some of this horrible legislation?
Remember 2004. Kerry and Bush didn’t differ at all on Iraq, the war, or much else really.
But then, there will be another state sponsored terrorist attack sometime this month. Karl Rove stated fear the October Surprise.
I really hope I’m wrong about this.
2 October 2006, on 10:36 am
RDZ, I agree that getting the Dems in and holding their feet to the fire is probably the best approach for November. And as for those “W” stickers, they send my blood pressure up everytime I see one. Stupid and/or manipulative people remaining stupid and/or manipulative, I suppose.
2 October 2006, on 11:12 am
Matt, as weak a candidate- witness his lack of tearing the swiftboat crowd a new asshole, as Kerry was, he did, in fact, differ from Bush on Iraq. He, and almost everyone in the Senate, had voted to give W. the authority to use force in Iraq based on what we know now was a jury-rigged National Intelligence Estimate and based on Bush’s insistence that the authority was necessary to give him clout as he negotiated a diplomatic solution with the UN Security Council- and his assurance that the use of that force would be a last resort. What a crock of shit that was, in retrospect, but that much cited vote was not for the war itself. And, by the time that campaign came around, the ill-considered invasion was a fait accompli and all that remained was debating an exit strategy and the general consensus that an abrupt withdrawal would mean civil war(apparently, staying meant that too).
Now, would it be nice to see the Dems stand up and point this out to the nation, to apologize for trusting a word this administration says, to hold BushCo. accountable for the deception? Obviously. But we can’t truly judge these Dems until we see how they behave with subpoena power and the ability to launch investigations. As a party of opposition, they’ve left a lot to be desired but, given the alternative in November, voting Democratic is the rational, progressive thing to do.
Man, wouldn’t it be nice to go to the polls and vote enthusiastically for the candidate, and not against the other?
2 October 2006, on 11:39 am
Tom Tomorrow hits the nail on the head.
2 October 2006, on 12:33 pm
The Diebold machines are a problem, yes, but vote anyway. Make the fuckers steal it again.
And if it is stolen again and nothing gets done about then it is time to start thinking of alternatives to win our liberty back.
2 October 2006, on 12:47 pm
Man, wouldn’t it be nice to go to the polls and vote enthusiastically for the candidate, and not against the other?
RDZ - yes, it would be nice if we had a candidate to enthusiastically vote for. Here in Illinois we have Blagojevich as the incumbent democratic candidate trying to retain the office of governor, and Judy Baar Topinka as his Repuglickan opposition. Few are thrilled about either candidate. And as one report states “Both nominees have weathered charges of corruption from within their own parties en route to their nominations. Neither has solidified support within their own party at this time.”
Baar Topinka is seen as pro-gay and wishy-washy on abortion, and thus is reviled by the most conservative voters. She doesn’t seem much different than her opponent, however, I will vote for Blagojevich because I cannot bring myself to vote republican.

RDZ, the graphic is really fine; where did it come from? And re Mark Foley (R-sexual predator), here is a story to put into the “Jeez Louise, this has got to be the irony of ironies” folder. I’m working with local folks to get congressional sponsors for House Resolution 888, which calls for debt relief for Haiti. The bill needs 80 co-sponsors, and as of early Friday there were 66. Hooray! As of the end of the day, there were 65; does anyone want to guess why? Yes, indeed, the page exploiter Foley, a co-sponsor of HR 888, had just resigned his position in Congress. My brain is trying to get around how a person who exploits teenagers could give a damn about Haiti, but there it is.
By the way, wherever you are, if you have a minute, call your congresscritter and ask him/her politely to sign on to this bill. Haiti is being levied with debt built up by decades of corrupt leadership, when they need every dollar they can get to rebuild. Check this website to see more about this bill: http://www.ijdh.org. Thanks, Cath

We have to go to the polls with the Democrats we have, not the Democrats we want.
For me, Bill Nelson’s pro-torture-hope-it-goes-before-the-SCOTUS-and-gets-thrown-out vote was really disheartening. But faced with voting for traitor-to-democracy, Katherine Harris, or traitor-to-human-rights, I still have to go Nelson. The horrific record of the Repulsicans on civil rights, human rights, favoritism for the rich, war, religion in gov. etc. makes voting for one of them impossible for me.

When I am tempted to focus on the short-term, I can become frustrated as well. But, if you zoom-out and see the big picture, you realize that reactionary religionists are speed bumps in the history of progress.
Long after all of us are dead, homosexuals couples will have gained the same rights as heterosexual couples … stem-cell research will have bore fruit (as well as introducing new debates in medical ethics as is inevitable). And so much more progress will be achieved.
Granted, it may not take place in the USA. But, the USA represents but a small part of the world. True, some things require the cooperation of the USA on account of its consumption of natural resources.
But, on the whole, I predict that Asia is and will be the place to focus in this 21st century … in science, technology, medicine, healthcare, environment management, alternative energy, etc.
The intellectually curious - and those who seek to leave the world a better place - will go where their knowledge and talent is appreciated and applied. Those eager to be change agents for humanity (a/k/a humanists) will not be deterred by one country’s myopic politicians or religious reactionaries.
Time and progress will march on even as the Jesus crowd eagerly awaits the return of their savior-god (again).

Catherine, I made the image with my GIMP- freeware photoshop essentially. Yeah, Foley’s a mass of contradictions. In Congress, he was the chair of a committee on missing and exploited children and his superwealthy constituents- and his connections to them- in Palm Beach, FL, are coveted by GOP presidential hopefuls to fill their campaign warchests. Is it any wonder Hastert, Boehner, and the Repiglickin House were willing to let his penchant for boys slide? Don’t want to interrupt that flow of cash, you know. My congresscritter is, unfortunately, the aforementioned John Boehner- but I’ll contact him anyway. What could he possibly have against Haitians? Well, except that they’re poor and decidedly not white.
Star, fortunately I’ve got a decent gubernatorial candidate in Ted Strickland to vote for- and his despicable, theocrat opponent, J. Kenneth Blackwell, to vote against, and Sherrod Brown for the Senate. I would have preferred Paul Hackett but Brown’s decent enough.
How come, in a gubernatorial race, the winner doesn’t become “Gubernor”- or just “Guber“? It would make so much more sense if George W. Bush were a former Gubernor or Guber and Schwarzenegger was the “Gubernator”. Every time I say “Governor”, I can’t help feeling kind of Cockney.

How come, in a gubernatorial race, the winner doesn’t become “Gubernor”- or just “Guber“?
For those who are interested in word origins this is kind of amusing:http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19960710
If we called them “gubers” pronounced “goobers” it would be kind of fitting for many of them, wouldn’t it?
2 October 2006, on 2:56 pm
Remember Guber (spelled Goober) from the Andy Griffiths show?
You mean John (R-Boner) Boehner? Aren’t you lucky, RDZ?
2 October 2006, on 2:57 pm
Righteous rant, Raindog, and ramen: right now the lesser of two evils is the Democrat Party, even if they’re more democrap than anything else. What else would you do, Matt - not vote? The Repiglickins want that as well…
