The future of GifS

11 October 2006 by Ron

Like the rest of you, I was shocked and saddened by Sean’s death. And my deepest condolences go out to Bob and the rest of his family and friends in real life. I’ve had a lot of dealings with Sean over the past year as I passed the running of GifS over to him, and have very direct experience of his energy and enthusiasm, and also of the amount of work he put into building this site into what it is now.

Although Sean will be missed here more than I can say, GifS will continue. As the Old GifS Guy, let me just let you all know that the admin stuff is still being taken care of, and the bills are still being paid. And it’s my hope that this site has a rich future that helps to pay some small tribute to Sean’s memory.

Thanks very much for coming back and helping us all out, Ron. Glad you kept that extra set of “house keys.”

    Hear Hear!

  3. Amy:

I have to say this is my favorite atheist website. I would be lost without you guys. I’m so glad to know that we will forge on.

  4. jimmer:

    Thanks Ron
Also whoever fixed my pic thanks. I still havent figured out the protocol for that right side left side.

Came back in time to catch this piece and then thread back to the original posting about Sean.

I wanted to say I was sorry; to express regret over Sean’s passing. We regularly come here to see and read about things that are ridiculous, infuriating, sad, wrong, unfair or unjust. With all the other articles, at least we (I?) think we can do something about it, by standing up and saying something, explaining something, at least not being quiet.

… and now there’s something we can’t beat… just find a way with which to cope.

Again, I’m sorry over the passing of Sean (and his father). Thank you, Ron, for returning and continuing. The sentiments above already say everything else I could.

Jimmer, It was me :) I sent you an email with a clip of instructions Sean had sent me when I was having the same problem.

    Ramen, Ron, ramen.

  8. Cassandra:

Thanks Ron, and to all of you who make GifS the excellent site that it is.

Ron, regarding your: “As the Old GifS Guy, let me just let you all know that the admin stuff is still being taken care of, and the bills are still being paid.”…

I’m just, simply, an ‘Old Guy’ who loves coming to this Site; where I can feel at home and express my opinion, for what it’s worth.
Many thanks, Ron, for your loyalty to something you were a major founder of…I only recently realized your importance in this Site’s inception and nurturing.

We really do need the steady hand of experience to keep this ‘Ship’ afloat…AND on course. A big ‘thumbs up’ from me!

  10. Bean:

Thank you, Ron. I was worried that GifS would cease to be the beacon shining through a sea of fundies. The best tribute is to continue talking about these issues and trying to make a difference, at least, in my opinion.

  11. Catherine:

Does anyone know how Sean’s family is doing - Bob, Sean’s sister (don’t know her name), other siblings, mother? And are we going to be able to see an obituary of some kind?

    Thanks, Catherine

  12. Stardust:

And are we going to be able to see an obituary of some kind?

Catherine - This is up to Bob & family. Bob’s last comment about that said:

“But, for the record, both Sean and I (and others) were always concerned with privacy…
The nature of this blog almost requires it…
    Possible repercussions and all…
    But we’ll see…”

So, guess we will have to wait and see what the family decides.
