Lifting Huge Stone Blocks–with your mind.
16 March 2007 by NaomiA huge doff of the GifS-hat goes to the Sacred Slut! I worship you, my Glorious Priestess!
This video appeals to the “Secret Mechanical Engineer” that resides deep in my psyche!
If you want to read more about Wally and Forgotten Technology, click and go to the bottom of the left sidebar; there you will find six “articles” (blog posts, really) on Wally’s amazingly simple feat!
Levers and fulcra, mechanical advantage, center of gravity…Oh! My!
Archimedes said, “Give me a place to stand on–and I can move the Earth!“

Recalls an old album title by the group Stretch:
“You can’t beat your brain for entertainment.”

How did they get the ones on top of the standing stones?

Consultants…

Naomi, that is fascinating! But, I too will be interested to know how he manages to get the stones on top of the standing stones.
Rev…”consultants” LOL!

“How did they get the ones on top of the standing stones?”
After browsing through article #3, I’m guessing he used the Egyptian Hoist machine, but I can’t get the picture to open.
There are other pictures of a hoist in the first article that may be what he is talking about.
Very cool stuff, Naomi!

Way to go, Wally! Great find, Naomi.
I’ll bet these were the techniques Ed used to build Coral Castle down here in my neck of the woods; if you’re ever in South Florida, it’s well worth the visit, in my opinion.

BTW: As we’re on a site that shouldn’t “draw fundies like shit draws flies”, I’d like to mention a blog that I now read every day: A Whore in the Temple of Reason. She’s listed on GifS’ right sidebar–”Other Atheist Blogs”. With a blog-name like that, and the screen “persona” of SacredSlut, I didn’t want to draw unnecessary and unwarranted “hysterical-fundie” traffic to her blog by directly linking to her post. I promise you it is not porn–but she has posted some delicious vintage porn (read: “dirty postcards”
). Instead, it’s very thoughtful and definitely an atheist site worthy of our attention. Please check it out and leave a comment, if you would.

Ooh, Naomi, you’re getting me all hot!
BTW, there are additional pages linked at the bottom center of each page. Look for the link that says “Page 2″ etc.
Re: capstones, one of my husband’s brainiac friends said “that’s easy” and proceeded to explain how you would use the same techniques to jack up the capstone level with the side stones and then swivel it into place. I can’t quite picture it but he is probably right.

Naomi
Thanks, This is the kind of thing that makes my day.
The capstones would be put up the same way that they jacked the posts up. Except they put the capstone between and diagonal to the two uptights and when they’ve jacked it as high as they need they just swivel it into place.
I might have to try this. LOL

Ummm…”A Whore in the Temple of Reason”…Is it really OK to call you “Slut” for short?
I really enjoyed my visit to your blog…
What! no vigil light candles?
That pseudo-Hawkings video was a surprise. A bit “white” in his phrasing, though…i.e…commenting as a musician…he doesn’t syncopate too well.
[I KNOW!...it's difficult to program that.]
Speaking of Hawkings…something occured to me somewhat recently. I’ve often wondered if he ever thought of suicide. But then…he could never pull a Richard Jeni; nobody would allow it!
It’s sure a bizarre way for a genius to spend a life!
Nice pics…reminds me of my nephew; a photographer! [An "Inside" joke!]
I’ll have to visit your site more often…I love your sense of humor.
Of course…I’ve always had a warm spot in my ‘heart’ for sluts!
Thanks Naomi, for spotlighting her blog.
[It kinda reminds me of HBO's "Rome" series, as well!]

[...] Do you remember my March post Lifting Huge Stone Blocks with your Mind! It caused a minor sensation, to see that moving huge Stonehenge-like stones wasn’t all that difficult to do, even without help. [...]
