Pure Bliss!
28 April 2007 by NaomiIntroducing comedian Chris Bliss:
Okay, that wasn’t really funny. So, is he really a comedian? Check it out for yourself…

Commentary, news, and rants on the evils and stupidity of belief in the big invisible daddy in the sky. Illuminating and watchdogging the widespread attempts to institutionalize the theocratic rule of the US. Making fun of believers everywhere.

Thanks Naomi, this was a fun diversion. The guy is incredible and makes it look so easy! Fun and fascinating to watch. (Cool song, too.)

Hm. The link is dead already — video removed by user. Shucks.

rbh - It works for me still.

Professional jugglers hate this guy for getting so much attention when he is a relatively unskilled juggler. Jason Garfield, an admittedly butter guy, created a response video where he performs Chris Bliss’ routine with five balls dramatically raising the difficulty level. http://youtube.com/watch?v=QYUXaYCkv-A&search=jason%20garfield
If you want to see some juggling that is both technically difficult and entertaining, check out anything done by the Galchenkos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOxmWx_0Xwk&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftop5daily%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dgalchenko
Not only are they awesome jugglers they are also rational thinkers. Vova fills his personal blog with skeptical and atheist commentaries. http://www.galchenko.com/blog/vova/

It should be pointed out that Chris Bliss, though perhaps not the best juggler, is behind a movement to get Bill of Rights monuments placed throughout America’s public lands as a response to the 10 Commandment monuments we hear so much about.

Well, he might not be a talented juggler by juggler’s standards, but I sure as hell couldn’t even come close to doing anything remotely like that at all.
I thought it was awesome.

OK, I checked out the other videos, and the Galchenkos are fucking amazing! And they’re teenagers! Oh my God! OK, bad choice of words on an atheist blog.
I also checked out the other guy, and although I could tell that he was a better juggler, his routine wasn’t as in sync with the music as Chris’s was.

What the hell? There may be something more boring than juggling, but it sure doesn’t occur to me at the moment.

mimes juggling

“mimes juggling”…erm…against the wind?
“Nice!”
[ala Midnight the cat...right, Naomi?]

I haven’t seen a lot of mimes outside of cartoons where they have superpowers. They’re sometimes funny under those circumstances.
For real world mimes, I think they can be hypothetically funny, but most only seem to do the cliche acts.
One hypothetical scenario I think would be potentially funny: Have a mime do a copying act of a mime-hater. If it doesn’t work out, watching the hater pummel the crap out of the mime will.

Vova Galchenko is an athiest, and his blog is full of debate with christians about life and evolution and all that:

As a professional juggler myself, I can tell you the controvesy surrounding Chris Bliss was created mainly by one or two jugglers with a grudge, who would kill to have such a successful routine.

Thank you, luke burrage! I haven’t followed juggling, in the past, because I felt inferior to their skills. I know, that’s not the thinking processes of an adult.
But on one of my previous posts, I checked my links to be sure they worked — and the top post said:
I was just…blown away! And I HAD to share it. (In the YouTube comments, there were a lot of disparaging remarks, which I just put down to professional jealousy; thanks to you, I see that I was right!)
Now I’ve got to go visit Vova’s blog, so if you’ll excuse me–

LB: one atheist is like another, in some respects — but no one can beat the Galchenkos! I followed Christopher’s link (in #4 above) and saw the ESPN coverage of the LasVegas competition. How awesome: 9.22/10 and 9.95/10!
But my heart is still captivated by Bliss’ show. Even Jason Gardner, while more technical, couldn’t move me…
And I’m still a klutz!

Luke, that was excellent! And to think you managed to get through the routine after cutting your head open just minutes before going onstage!
How in the world did you cut your head? Did you fall or walk into something?

Luke, just amazing! And do tell us — my guess is the competition is cutthroat (or headbanging?)!
Satisfy our curiosity, please!

I was hit by a spaceship.
I wrote about that night here: http://www.lukeburrage.com/thingonthenet/?page_id=10

Luke, it seems you should hire a personal nurse and/or doctor to travel with you! I don’t mean this as an insult, but it’s ironic that you are such a good juggler, but kind of a klutz at the same time!
Maybe you need a helmet and steel-toed safety shoes?

What I see, LukeB, is the headache you had the next morning (times two) was free! Had you attended the after-parties, you might have been “broke, with a headache” or just had that alcohol-haze-headache that aspirin won’t help and only time will cure…
