Five minutes of nothing but hate and bitterness. What a sad life these people must have…
^I agree.
If God supposedly hates the world and everyone in it, then that obviously includes them. So why don’t they just remove themselves from the world?
The rest of us who have a more positive outlook on life would be much better off.
The really really ironic thing here is that they are just interpreting the bible(s) in a slightly different way than other Fundies. If you read the bible, God does hate people and he especially hates homosexuals.
he especially hates just about everyone, he just hates mindless “pure” robots a wee bit less
I failed to watch it all…couldn’t stomach it.
These people I feel sorry for. But I feel sorrier for their victims.
Couldn’t a one of them write original music for it at least? God hates score thieves!
Before you spout your mouths off… get educated. You are all ignorant, insecure with yourselves and must have boring lives. When do you find time to picket with these signs. I have a life and can barely fit the things i do in a day let alone waste time doing what you are doing. GET A LIFE!!!
Jon are you addressing us or the people in the video? WTF? Do you realize that we are MOCKING the video and against these freakin’ assholes and the hate they spew forth? - Moderator
Looks like that guy in the back waving the upside down Canadian flag at the end of the song has a special place in his loving Christian heart for Canadians.
I must be losing it, but I roared, especially at the “God hates the world” chorus. The aggregate IQ of the singers wouldn’t top that of a bowl of tapioca.
Do all these “women” have to wear their hair in a ponytail? Is it a special rule they have? Does God love a tight ponytail on his fundie-mentals? Cheaper than a facelift, I suppose.
What a sad bunch of fuckwits. You poor Americans, having this lot in your lovely country.
Looks like that guy in the back waving the upside down Canadian flag at the end of the song has a special place in his loving Christian heart for Canadians.
Oh yeah, eh? You know why the fundies hate us Canadians? Because we’re actually into being nice to our neighbours and helping out the unfortunate citizens who need it and all that other really unjeeziz-like stuff.
What a bunch of cretinous spew. These folks (and I use that term very loosely) make the everyday, run-o-the-mill, ultraconservative, bible-thumping, evangelical fundie seem extraordinarily tame in comparison.
If I rolled my eyes any harder they’d pop out the back of head.
Actually, all of you are in the wrong here. Actually, they (the singers) are right in this case; the reason this confuses you is that you don’t know the god that the are talking about:
Calvin!
…..wow….those people are obviously brainwashed or soemthing…this is probably the worst thing ive ever seen christians do. No wonder no body wants to follow christ. This is just terrible.
This is what happens when the bearded freak who used to wander the streets wearing a sandwich board proclaiming the end to be near gets a computer and some cheap video editing software.
There ought to be a fake indoor gay/military funeral arranged to draw these fuckers out, at which point they will be crushed with a 16 ton weight- or just subjected to a giant magnifying glass above their heads focusing the sun’s heat until they’re shriveled husks on the sidewalk.
Honest, these folks have given up any claim to being sentient, rational beings and are now, by default, below the cockroach, the woodlouse, and the silverfish on the food chain.
It also figures that this “church” is unable to even round up a competent choir…
Sheesh!…erm…
WTF!!! (Yeah, Eve…I remain “!” defiant!!!!…and loving it!)
Just when you thought “they” couldn’t get any worse…ala the Phelps?
These musical retards stole the tune…at LEAST they could’ve had the chorus’ lyrics say something like:
“WE are the fucks!…WE are the fucktards!” (Whilst, simultaneosly, pointing at themselves, of course!)
No?
Just for that onslaught, Stardust…I’m cancelling my Westboro membership…and turning in all my prayer books (they’re all in braille, anyway!)!
Yeah…Just about now…I think I’m in dire need of an ‘eye roll’…erm…
Would somebody please pass the butter?
What is most disturbing to me is how much they appear to be enjoying themselves.
Well, of course the attention whores are enjoying themselves! They set their hate-spew to music and had themselves a hullabaloo!
Losers…
I really have a hard time believing that that wasn’t a spoof. I think that the more expeosure this video gets the better - can you imagine a better anti - missionary video? Seriously, with the women dancing as they sing and the funky organ… I don’t think that virtuouso was quite enough to save that number!
I agree with Jimmy. I saw this a while ago and took it as a spoof as I had never heard of this Westboro thingamajig, and there are spoofers who use religious sounding names. How could anyone, including the participants, take this seriously? But unfortunately, they seem to be serious.
It gets harder and harder to parody religion, not to mention Commander Guy Bush.
Couldn’t help noticing a nice, pretty, innocent looking young girl wearing a pink sweater with the words “God hates fags” on it.
Also a bit of irony that they tell us “so just obey him!” even though they’ve just told us that “it’s too late to change his mind”. I think they are way past reason though.
The photo of the girl holding a “Thank God for 9/11″ placard made me feel sick.
Catchy tune though.
That was creepy.I can just imagine the closet full of UZI’s and AK47’s sstashed behind the altar.
The women all seemed to be really into it, while a couple of the guys looked a little embarrassed.
Why don’t things like this make it on to the news? Would have made a great lead in to Falwell’s funeral.
Also a bit of irony that they tell us “so just obey him!” even though they’ve just told us that “it’s too late to change his mind”
Heh, I thought that one redeeming factor in the whole idea. Since I am past god’s forgiveness or grace, I may as well do whatever I feel like doing! Now, how does that argument go about not being able to be moral or ethical without the aid of a big sky daddy?
Actually, I always thought Westboro Baptist WAS a total ‘put on’; which would, of course make the video the same. Perhaps more investigation might be in order?
Like, maybe an atheist’s FBI (Fuckhead & Bullshitter Investigation) team?…erm…
in particular, the: “GifSter’s Mod Squad Adjunct (add junk…ad nausea?)”
HA HA HA HA HA!
That was just classic…. sad that its real but still funny as hell. I hope they make more!
You know if I happen to go to Iraq (I’m a U.S. soilder) and happen to die there. I want these people invited to my funeral. (Since by law they can no longer protest by them) This way it will spice up my funeral a bit and bring some humour in a event that would lack it. Anyway I could get in contact them to arrange this?
Nuclearshadow,
Even better, why don’t you take them with you, although hopefully you won’t have to go back. They could always be used as bomb detectors.
It would be funnier if they protested funerals in clown suits, did they protest Falwell’s already?
I have long thought that these people need more exposure. They’re the most intellectually honest fundamentalists out there — I think the bible really says what they think it says. I’d like to think that if more people realized that, they’d abandon that book as any kind of guide for living. But most believers still seem to just see the parts that make them feel good, and ignore most of their “sacred text” — when they’d be better off ignoring all of it.
Hey, where the hell was Bono?…
On further investigation (RE my #24 comment), I realize my brain got twisted into a confused state…I now realize that I had confused the “Landover Baptist” shtick (see our fun Sites) with the Phelps’ “Westboro Baptist”…definitely NOT fun; and truly disgusting, deranged bunch of fucktards.
Silly me!…or…pardon my brain lapse! I must have been a quart low on caffeine, this morning. I was OK last night, though. (my comment #16)
I guess it also shows how little close attention I give to Baptists, in general.
This stuff is really getting more and more bizarre.
Speaking of bizarre…I found it rather disturbing watching George H. W. Bush breaking into uncontrollable sobs over the fundie Billy Graham, at the Graham Library opening yesterday. The same, lame, president who declared that atheists shouldn’t be considered proper American citizens, or suitable for any public office. Yeah…this same, totally deluded, high profile guy, who gifted us with the present fundie, lame brained, warmongering president.
Aargh!
I actually kind of like the Fred Phelps church. I mean, I don’t LIKE the people, obviously - they are vile - but I get a kick out of the fact that they do so many clownishly theatrical things exposure. I know you must have seen and/or linked to those lists that explain that in order to heed the word of god as written in the bible, you’d have to stone your daughter or eat the flesh of your son, and all that nonsense - well, the GodHatesFags congregation is like a walking, talking version of that same thing. Sure, they might be more vitriolic and even more stupid than most of the Christian base, but is there any less of a foundation for what they say? Well, maybe a little, but still, they are exposing the sheer inanity of the entire concept, and they’re inadvertantly pointing out the misguided nature of buying into a belief system that isn’t rooted in reason. Everyone is a humanist, at least to some extent, and the GHF church, when it really starts hooting and hollering, makes more typical Christians look like Kurt Vonnegut in comparison. I think this is a good thing. Call me crazy, but I don’t believe that at this day and age the GHF group is going to really recruit that many people into the bible-thumping, literalist, fag-hating fold. As a matter of fact, it seems to me that, as a belief system struggles for its life, you’ll see more and more things like this. It’s just people trying to hang onto something that they see as pure. In this part of the world, it’s the everyday quasi-Christian type, running for office or taking the reins of our communities, that is most insidious.
What do you think?
P.S. Keep up the good work. Love the site!
Unfortunately, the woman front and center at the microphone is Shirley Phelps, spawn of Gaytriarch/Churchtard, Fred Phelps. So, yeah, they’re absolutely real- or as real as people with that tenuous a grasp on reality can be. Let’s just say, they’re serious.
Dan, I’ll take it one step further and say that it would behoove us to actively encourage these wing-nuts to even greater extremes. It takes a larger than normal amount of outrage to get the fence-sitters/moderates amongst the fabulists to publicly disavow that sort of behavior. I figure if I’m a member of a club, and it means something to me, it’s my responsibility to prevent others from sullying the good name of my club. And that should be up to and including physically throttling the offenders.
The sad part is that the WBC is being more faithful to the Bible than any other Christian I know. I challenge any Christian to read the book of Isaiah and argue whether it is better or worse than this video.
I’m sorry, I’ve never laughed so much in ages!
That’s the idea, Zipi. Most people might look at the Westboro goofballs and and say, “Yeah, but that’s not MY god they’re talking about, the TRUE lord jeebus christ,” but there will perhaps be a few people who look at it and figure out that it isn’t any more patently ridiculous than their version, and maybe those few extra people will follow that line of reasoning to its logical conclusion. It’s all nonsense.

I especially enjoyed the brief but true “Jesus is a c–t” motif. And can somebody explain why these people are obsessed with eating children? I think all roasters should be removed from their church immediately.
i don’t get it - so is that like the real message these people are trying to put out - and - do they actually believe those things
- cuz it seemed to me the clip had a sense of humour about itself - not in the spoofy way, but in the “this is the stuff were surrounded with so let do a video montage” type thing - or is my brain just compensating?
Henny penny
You haven’t seen these people on the news programs? Check out this video of Phelp’s daughter who is also in the music video.
These people are for real, and in reality there is nothing funny about them because they fervently believe what they spew forth.
www.godhatesfags.com
Check it out for yourself.
YouTube has many videos about the Westboro Baptist Church sickos.
Sorry Stardust, but I’ll have to disagree on that point. I think there is something genuinely funny about the Westboro Baptists. It’s absurdist theatre. I can see how they seem a little frightening, but I really do believe that they exhibit, at most, an effect of homophobic panic instead of a cause of hatred. They aren’t convincing anyone, and they’re almost certainly turning more people off of God in the process. I find that pretty funny, and they do have an odd, merry-pranksters sort of vibe.
They have indoctrinated their children into a particularly fringe level of nonsense, and that is very sad, but of course there is no shortage of that in the world.
In short, I think you had better laugh because otherwise you’d have to cry.
Dan
The funny stops at exactly the point where you realize that there are children involved and they are being raised in this venomous atmosphere.
I think it borders on criminal to have children of such a young age out on the roadside holding signs saying God Hates Fags and Thank God for 9/11 and so forth. Do these children even comprehend what they are participating in?
There’s a YouTube video of the WBC group being attacked by a mob. Admiddetly, the adults get a rush out of it, and it’s exactly what they want, because they say jebus said people hated him for what he did and if the WBC is hated then they are on the right track. But to endanger kids for their hateful cause is unconscionable. They are just using those kids, probably hoping for a lawsuit and recompense.
Dan, you are entitled to your opinion, but I still don’t find anything funny with them boycotting at funerals of soldiers and putting placards on their children which contain hateful messages. These are the types of people who would kill the “godless heathens” if it were glorified like it is with militant Islam.
Not much difference in mentality, and that mentality is dangerous and sick.
Fair enough, and those are good points.
Look, the kids are indoctrinated, and they don’t understand what they are being taught. That is and has always been dreadfully sad, but it is far from new. I don’t think it’s a good thing to teach these children such hatred, but this is a widely unaccepted form of hatred. The real threat are the subtler, accepted forms, and those involve the people who are running our world, for the most part. Yes, I agree that those kids are really screwed, and I echo your contempt for that, but what is the WBC selling that anyone but a few, relatively inconsequential goofballs is going to buy?
We are told that we’re supposed to respect other peoples’ religions. Of course, it’s a ridiculous concept, and the WBC displays a very good example of why the concept doesn’t make any sense. Anyone who isn’t sure what he believes when he gazes upon the antics of WBC is far liklier, in my estimation, to figure out that respecting all religions doesn’t make sense, and they’re more likely to fill the resulting void with humanism than anything else. I think the WBC are anti-religion statements unto themselves.
Still, I can see how you may not think this video is funny, and I do respect that. There is no excuse for idiocy like this, especially where the kids are concerned. In context, however, I think it’s okay to have a laugh.
Dan
If it was a spoof, I’d laugh.
But seeing the unbridled joy in hating on the faces of these people unnerves me.
You have a point that this sect is going to appeal to only a few. I hope that remains true.
I agree with Star, and I think these folks are only a heartbeat away from killing only because they are so few in number.
Cry4turtles, the “you will eat your children” is a biblical theme. Various prophets announce to the “evil” people that when God punish them they will have to eat their children (for lack of anything else, I guess). Link.
Karen and others, you talk about indoctrinating children. I have thought a lot about this. One of the people doing the most indoctrination nowadays (and, we could argue, psychologically abusing those children) is Shirley Phelps. But Shirley was once an innocent child herself, who was no doubt indoctrinated by her father Fred. To which extend is Shirley really a despicable person, and not simply the victim of having been her father’s daughter?
Zipi
Yes, Shirley was herself indoctrinated, having been raised effectively in a cult. How despicable is she as opposed to how much a victim? Hard to say. If she were given a chance at deprogramming, and was able to look back at WBC with less bias, the path she would then choose would be telling.
She is a lawyer, no? So she must have reasoning skills. Another example of how reason is turned off when it comes to faith. In this case, it is surely exacerbated by the intense indoctrination.
I really don’t know how these people function in the real world. Everything about it comes under the heading of “god hates it” and they’re all about god’s work. They must feel that they are committing extreme acts of bravery just stepping foot outside their secluded church or homes.
You might describe WBC as the Beavis and Butthead of xianity, but without the insight.
I find it rather ironic that those that these people are bastardizing someone elses song that was originally created in stirring a loving and giving nature.
I haven’t been able to accept any type of organized religion simply because the ones I come across in the last 45 years are nothing but self servers. They will always find one group or another to hate. They will self appoint themselves as judge, jury and executioners for any cause that pitches one group against another.
More people have been killed in the name of various God’s throughout human history than for any cause ever known.
These type of individuals are never happy unless they are wallowing in chaos and abject misery.
I am baffled, bambooozled and amaze just how much hatred comes from people like these. I could almost belief its a type of real mental illness. Why? Because no one just hates over night. It comes through their own personal experiences at some point in time. So much good could be utilized if they would just let go of the persecution of innocent people.
Like the song by Rage Against The Machine: “Killing in the Name of…”The lyrics are so true and scary…Personally, stop the world, I want to get off. This is serious sick stuff from these wackos.
Louis Theroux’s BBC2 documentary on this, The Most Hated Family in America, is well worth watching. You might find it on YouTube or some place like that.
Somehow I can’t bring myself to hate these people. (It does help that they do not use or condone violence.) It’s almost as if I’m watching aliens, rather than human beings, and so can’t apply the sort of moral judgement I’d apply to to them if they were part of humanity.
Let’s see here. WBC is composed of the Phelps family members. If no new members were to come in from the outside of the circle, does that mean that they’ll have to resort to inbreeding to keep the church going?

I found this video ever so slightly retarted. I am a Christian and I’m probably one of the only ones to admit that most Christians are ignorant assholes like these people. I get the vibe that this is one of the churches that majorly corrupts the Bible in that they just don’t preach the love that is shown in the Book no doubt to scare everyone into obeying their version of God’s will. But what I find pretty funny is is that God probably holds Sodomy in a higher light than corrupting the masses. And even if God hates everyone, he hates these fucktards a lot more.
