And Speaking of Stupidity and Money…

14 January 2008 by Bob

Well, the spring term starts today on campuses all across this great nation of ours (some earlier, I know, and I’m sorry), so I thought to forward some stuff on this bleak Monday…

The first funny is the Top 100 Actual Quotes from Fundies. Some highlights:

Atheists have the greatest “cover” of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims. [...] Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn’t possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it. [...] I am a bit troubled. I believe my son has a girlfriend, because she left a dirty magazine with men in it under his bed. My son is only 16 and I really don’t think he’s ready to date yet.

Oh yes, they get better and better…

The second concerns all those bad, bad, non-xians and their megachurches:

In November, Grassley, who serves as ranking minority member on the Senate Finance Committee, ramped things up a bit. He announced that he is seeking detailed financial information from six mega-ministries…. The move sent shock waves through the evangelical community. Grassley is a conservative Republican whose votes on social issues usually please the Religious Right. (His 2006 rating from the Family Research Council was 87 percent.) But the senator has long had an interest in preserving the integrity of the tax laws and has in the past complained about secular non-profits violating the law. In 2005-06, Grassley held a series of hearings on Capitol Hill that included testimony from large non-profit groups such as the Smithsonian Institution and the Red Cross. Now he’s turning his sights to the religious sector.

Oh, persecution! Oh, oppression!

  1. Micky:

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
    —John 8:44

I, MICKY, AM THE HOLY ONE OF GOD.

  2. Inari:

Just read all 100 of those top quotes. Don’t follow in my footsteps, it’s not healthy to read them all at once.

Though every time I read something like that, I can’t help but to hope that these idiots are right, and that Jeebus is coming to take them all away in “Teh Rapture.” The sooner they’re all gone, the better, in my opinion.

Just remember, “use scripture, not logic.” I smiled at that one. And then I realized that I share one or more gene sequences with the creature that spewed it forth. Oh, the pain…

  3. Raindogzilla:

If these megachurches have specifically charitable offshoots- soup kitchens, clothing for the homeless, etc., let those remain tax exempt, with separate sets of books and subject to the same rules and regulations as Goodwill or the Red Cross. Let the well-manicured plots of land and the tasteless monstrosities built upon them be taxed as the property they are and every dollar flowing in accounted for in annual tax filings- with the appropriate deductions for documented, legitimate charitable giving- even to their own charities so long as the money could be proven to be going to the cause and not to the administrators.

It even seems to work out constitutionally in that treating the churches as any other business or landowner prevents any notion of government establishment and/or special treatment. And, while I don’t want government in religion anymore than the opposite, it might be fun to expose these far-flung evangelical organizations to the same employment law as us regular folks. ;)

    Mickey, #1

Hopefully you are just a new visitor being funny and we don’t catch your sense of humor. However, if you are serious, keep in mind that nowhere can we find an instance in the Babble where the devil murders. In the Bible, God is a rapist, murderer, torturer, and is an all-around dick.

  5. Stardust:

Check out this. Satire or real?

Atheists Are Out To Get Your Children

Atheists suffer from the disease of hating life. They hate themselves and blame God for their misery. They lash out and lash out at the weak. Their number one target is a child. This is why I’m writing a guide to help parents properly train and protect their children from Atheist Predators, like Atheist Penn Jillette in that picture. Atheists try to use the power of logic and reason to attack a child’s mind and brainwash it for their own selfish purpose.

  6. ChuckA:

    Stardust…Ummm…
That “Blog ‘O Bullshit” might just be real; considering the “Right to Strife…erm…Life” prominently displayed abortion counter in the right ‘panel’.
For someone to spend that much time and effort to just ’satirize’ about atheists…and especially to directly target Penn Gillette, somehow seems unlikely.
Either way, the blogger is, in this, ‘modest’, atheist’s opinion, a first class…deluded asshole?
That tweaked a few of my napping (more retarded?) brain cells…Maybe we should institute a new GifS award category?…Something like…
“The Delusional Asshole(s) of the Month (/Week/Day) Award?
[with an appropriate, nice, shiny, (animated?) golden ass pic?]
Hey…and, why not the usual Sub-categories, as well: as in “Golden/Silver/Bronze”?
Of course there’s the ever popular…ummm…
“Dickhead”, “Sky-Daddy-Fucker”, “Orbitting Fuckhead”, “Self-administered Blow job (cunnilingus?)” etc., awards…?
OK…I may have schlepped over the line on that last one…
    or not? ;)

  7. Stardust:

    chuckA, “Blog ‘O Bullshit”…LOL…Love it!

Here is another little gem from Christopher at Conservatipedia:

    Cats
Atheists tend to have Cats as pets, since cats have no souls. They will never have a dog, because Dogs do goto heaven and they don’t believe in that.

“The Delusional Asshole(s) of the Month (/Week/Day) Award?

That is an excellent idea for a regular feature to replace “Lion Feed”

  8. Stardust:

This quote made me choke on my coffee!

Gravity: Doesn’t exist. If items of mass had any impact of others, then mountains should have people orbiting them. Or the space shuttle in space should have the astronauts orbiting it. Of course, that’s just the tip of the gravity myth. Think about it. Scientists want us to believe that the sun has a gravitation pull strong enough to keep a planet like neptune or pluto in orbit, but then it’s not strong enough to keep the moon in orbit? Why is that? What I believe is going on here is this: These objects in space have yet to receive mans touch, and thus have no sin to weigh them down. This isn’t the case for earth, where we see the impact of transfered sin to material objects. The more sin, the heavier something is.

  9. AtheistUnderMask:

You know, if megachurches had to pay taxes, the amount of taxes the rest of pay could be a lot lower. There’s an Assembly of God megachurch down here where I live, and every time I see it, I shake my head. It is on so much land, yet they don’t pay a damn thing.

1 in 5 families are in debt to the IRS. If megachurches had to pay, maybe, just maybe, it would drop to 1 in 3, maybe lower.

  10. AtheistUnderMask:

Star, #7, then what am I? I have two dogs, one lives with my parents and the other with my wife and me.

Oops. Guess Chris is just another asshat.

  11. Stardust:

AUM, I offered Chris up to the Lions, since that is what we atheists, and cats do.

Now this thread can get back on topic of Bob’s post.

  12. karen:

    AUM
Sorry, I don’t follow. How would megachurches paying taxes get families out of tax debt?

  13. AtheistUnderMask:

Sorry karen. I meant that if megachurches had to pay taxes, perhaps it would get some of the tax burden off of the regular people (because you know government isn’t going to take responsibility for their own spending practices).

If the megachurches paid their share, perhaps taxes on us would be lower. That would mean less families in debt to the IRS.

Forgive me for not explaining. My mind was going faster than my fingers.

  14. Inari:

Megachurches, sure, they should pay taxes. So should every other church. Lady I work with today said that her church, which is local, takes in about 40k a week. That’s 2.08 million dollars a year. And I live in the bible belt, with a church on every corner. There are bigger churches, and smaller, but I’d say that churches in Tennessee (my state, unfortunately) take in several billion a year. And yet they aren’t taxed? Maybe we atheists should start our own religion. Why shouldn’t we get some benefit out of this?

  15. wisconsinite:

Yes, such a source of energy would probably be very evident. It would probably be as visable as the sun itself. The Earth is flattened by the sins of mankind! Wow, my question is where is “fags eat poop” on that list?

Also Id like to reveal my secret identity as jimmy dean. I have posted on this forum under that name before, and enjoyed it untill I send a violent message to “Revenant”. Of course, I was wrong and Revenant was correct – there is big money in the global warming politics of fear. Among others, the nuclear industry stands to benefit tremendously from all the carbon panic. Now some would tout it as “green” source of electricity. They are largely financing Mr. Obama’s campaign, and he supports giving out more subsidies that would be better off given to true renewbles. Now I do believe in the GW theory, but disagree with the fearmongering and opportunistic moves that waste tax dollars.
–Of course this is neither here nor there as far as this post or even this forum goes, but i felt the need to come and apoogize to Revenant and acknowledge my past ignorance on this subject.

  16. Eve:

^ Good show, wisconsinite; it takes a decent, mature human being to own up to an error of any sort, especially publicly.

Now we know for sure you’re not a fundie; they never admit when they’re wrong! :-D

  17. sargoth:

While that list is always good for a laugh, I have to assume that some of the posts are from very snarky trolls, not xians.
