Lewis Black - The Devil’s Handiwork

23 January 2008 by Stardust

Here is a clip from Lewis’ stand-up comedy act on HBO. I watched the whole show last night and laughed the entire time! He does a great job making fun of religious crap, such as the idea of creationism, creation museums, and how Xians say the devil is trying to trick us with fossils, etc. If you have a chance, try to watch this whole act, if not, YouTube has plenty of clips of highlights from the whole show on subjects of Dubya, Cheney and hunting, and more.

    Yes, Stardust…
Another, under the radar, comic “Truth-sayer”.
In other words; comics can manage, using laughter, to get the truth through to people’s minds, by bypassing their usual, heavily programmed, defense mechanisms.
I love his delivery and demonstrative ‘index finger’ mannerisms!
And, “Man!” (metaphorically?)…do we need comics THESE days!!! ;)

  2. Stardust:

I love when he says “But I have . . . thoughts, and that can really fuck up the faith thing”

A couple of things. Stardust, at the end of his comment he said, “Just ask any catholic priest”. If someone made a similar comment about jews, he would probably be accused of anti-semitism, unless he was a Lewis Black, and even that is not always the case.

Second, I love “Evolution is a major thread in the larger tapistry that I like to call…Reality.”

Everyone knows it’s true…the catholic church has a pedophile priest epidemic. Have there been such accusations or proven instances about pedophile Jewish rabbis?

And if anyone said a similar comment about Muslims and made fun of Islam, they would be intolerant. Start making fun of Mohammad being a pedophile and child rapist and there will be death threats.

Xianity is easy to make fun of in America because all xians do to “retaliate” is to tell us we are going to hell and they will pray for us, and/or cry persecution.

I’ve seen this entire DVD and highly recommend it to anyone here. Funny shite.

As for the above comments about Judaism; actually Black demonstrates equal irreverence for the religion of his heritage. When speaking about the differences between the Xtian and Jewish Gawd, he states that the Gawd of the Old Testament is a total asshole.

here is another funny video that makes fun of religion.

Fritzy, yes he does. The comparison he makes between the fluffy, fuzzy feeling gawd of the New Testament and the sadistic dick of a gawd in the Old Testament is hilarious (and right on!).

Also, in the beginning of this very clip he makes fun of jews by saying “we also know what we are good at, and what we’re really good at is bullshit” . He does plenty of mockery of the jews along with xians. I would say almost equally.

Star, is this the one entitled “Red, White, and Screwed” or is it a new one. Last year I read of a live show of his in Canada in which he deals with the creationist thing by saying “Fossil, fossil, fossil, fossil, fossil - Fuck You!” But I’ve never seen it in the broadcoast shows here.

If you get a chance to see “Red, White,. . .” do so. He talks about the presentation he did at the big correspondents’ dinner (the one at which Stephen Colbert caused several heart attacks a couple years ago) and how he felt like a whore afterwards (because of all the warmongers present). His parents were in the audience, and there’s a very funny bit about Paul Wolfowitz coming up and hugging them afterwards, so now he’s made his parents into whores.” Hysterical. The man rocks.

  9. Stardust:

catherine, yes, this is from “Red, White and Screwed”. It was on Comedy Comedy central and they kept bleeping out the “bad words” and that takes something away from it. I am going to see if I can rent it.
