Commentary, news, and rants on the evils and stupidity of belief in the big invisible daddy in the sky. Illuminating and watchdogging the widespread attempts to institutionalize the theocratic rule of the US. Making fun of believers everywhere.
The very first episode of the his HBO series, “Extras”, had Gervais’ character declaring his atheism; with rather
hilarious consequences, when he confronts a religiously delusional paraplegic gal, and also an RCC priest in an extremely ‘uncomfortable’ (and hilarious) prayer group dating scene.
Gervais co-wrote the series and maintains a skeptical atheist, albeit rather cynical, attitude throughout the series.
Of course, I certainly wouldn’t identify with that kind of character, now…would I?
I must say; I had been curious as to whether he actually IS an atheist in his ‘real life’.
I guess this Post answered that.
Thanks, Raindog.
Mods…Will we ever again have a “preview” feature on the comment thread.
my above: “…episode of the his HBO series…” and line gap, reminded me of that old feature.
Even a spell check doesn’t catch that dumb stuff!
Ricky Gervais is a really funny person. As well as The Office, he wrote and starred in an episode of The Simpsons. There are excerpts of some of his stand-up shows on YouTube. They’re also available on DVD ….. region 2, naturally, but I think most players are multi-region nowadays.
The original “The Office” was funny but I never really got to see it enough to get into it. The American version, however, I really like, with Steve Carrell and Rainn Wilson. On Ricky’s site, it says that he and his writing partner have just written an episode for the Dunder-Mifflin, Scranton branch. That ought to be good. It’s also nice to see someone not just famous but who’s talent I admire being open about their atheistic worldview.

The episode of The Office that Gervais and Merchant wrote aired in season 3 (late 2006/early 2007) and it was brilliant.
I love Gervais. He is so great. Y’all should listen to the podcasts he and Merchant and Karl Pilkington did as well.

Oh, Ricky Gervais. Is there no end of reasons to love you? I was a devoted fan before I read this. Now, I would marry you….if asked.

The BBC version of The Office is to the American version as Bordeaux is to Budweiser.
