Keeping kids ignorant for Jesus

26 March 2008 by Stardust

Here is a video that has been circulating the internet about fundamentalist Christians who take their homeschooled children to museums and misinforming them that the museums’ evolution and dinosaur exhibits have it wrong. It’s not just homeschoolers who are being taught this garbage, but also children in fundamentalist Christians schools. These tours are “from a strictly Biblical perspective” and no basis in proven facts. Science and evidence are ignored and replaced with what the parents choose to believe. I feel sorry for these children. They will have a hard time competing and succeeding in the real world.

ABC did a good job of reporting on this one.

I think ABC did an OK job of refuting these idiots, but it could have been better. Especially when they let them get the last word in by claiming that people “choose to believe in Evolution” and that that choice “is a matter of faith”. But I was impressed when he called them on their sloppy math and confronted them about radiometric dating. And if it isn’t obvious to anyone watching that clip that these people are brainwashing children, then I don’t know what is.

That’s where you’re wrong, Stardust. Thanks to their wise parents, these kids can now look forward to a lucrative career as talk show hosts, professors at diploma mills, and politicians. Heck, with enough C’s in school and personal connections, one of them could even be the next President of the United States!

  3. Cat:

The Denver Museum of Natural History is an excellent institution chock full of evolutionary goodies. It’s so infuriating to see dumbshits peddling their idiocy to children who haven’t yet developed critical thinking skills or who are shouted down anytime they dare question an adult.

Did you notice how the kids aren’t learning anything, just rote memorizing whatever the adults want them to say? What a freaking waste.

I can’t help but thinking of “Evolution isn’t abiogenesis!!!!” *thwack&

    Child abuse.

That was very difficult to watch. It’s heartbreaking to see parents crushing the natural curiosity and potential of their children in the name of religion. Forget the dispute over the origin of life. The were at a museum of history! The fossils on display are now rocks that were dated using air-tight scientific methods! Unbelievable. Just willingly ignoring scientific fact because it doesn’t agree with your religious beliefs. That’s just insane.

So…let me get this straight…according to these two guys, carnivores on Earth were vegetarians until Eve ate a piece of fruit, then they became killers, i mean, meat-eaters? Huh?

Why even bother to let these kids out of their houses? If these jokers are going to fill their heads with nonsense, it seems silly to visit a museum to see the “fake” dinosaurs….

Stuff like this makes me so sad.

  8. Karen:

Evidence for when life existed based on fossil appearance in the layers is circular reasoning, while saying god made it because the Bible says it is…what?

“Is evolution a religion?” (nodding head)
“Are you good little automatons?” (nodding head)
    “How do you know?”
    “Let’s try it again.”
    “How do you know?”

“It says it in the Bible.”

I’m still trying to figure out what would be the most appropriate response if I were a witness to such a travesty in a museum. Should I:

    a. Ignore it?
    b. Exit the museum rapidly to avoid a heart attack from pure rage?
    c. Interrupt to say, “No, that’s not it at all; aliens from outer space terraformed our planet!”?
    d. Try to draw the preacher away and engage him in meaningful discussion as to why he’s wrong?
    e. Point at him very obviously and laugh mockingly very loudly?
    f. All of the above?
    g. None of the above?
    h. Other ___________?

  10. Terra:

I’m gonna go with the laughing. If I hadn’t already done B-died of rage.

Yeah, that’s a tough clip to watch. One of the best parts is this little girl in the front. The “tour guide” asks some question and wants everyone to say “NO!” but she’s looking at her peers. “What’s the right answer? Nothing he says makes any sense…”

I hope the scientist is correct in thinking that some of those poor little shits are thinking for themselves.

“youre looking at the evidence of god’s judgement against a sinful world” as the children stare mortified at fossilized remains…

I was waiting for the part when a collection plate gets passed around… “come on children empty those pockets like we’ve emptied your minds”

Eve, I’d go wih laughing too, and I’m betting some of the kids might join in the laughter too. “Ok there are several problems for the creationists, ah…”

You’re not THAT Eve, right? S’okay, just checking before I say something that will get me a permanent membership at Skyboss’s Lake-O-Fire Casino And Resort.

The truth is that when Skyboss saw that all of the dinos were jerking off and b-f’ing each other he went a tad nuts and offed ‘em (it’s alright, he could have made more). All except the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Their arms were too short to reach their weenies, so they were smoking dope–same outcome. Fuck with the Grand Design and the Grand Designer fucks right back.

I can’t see the video (my popup blockers are like Depends) but if it’s the same one I heard about elsewhere it appears that a certain KKKristian I spar with is a personal friend of the Godidiot who’s in charge of the sideshow. Not that it surprises me, in the least.

  13. Idarae:

I believe thier both right, I believe Dinasour were here before 6000 years ago and the earth was destroyed, as God says the earth was void and without form, I believe it was previously destroyed.

  14. Stardust:

Idarae, Well, that just goes to show that god believers can make up whatever beliefs they choose. You can see this god of your’s however you want him/she/it to be. You can interpret the Bible any way you choose.

But I do get your point, you can have your god beliefs, and reconcile science also. Thanks for stopping by.

  15. Eve:

democommie, don’t you get it? All women are that Eve! We’re all part of the evil femiNazi conspiracy to vaginize all men and - all together, now - take over the world! Bwahahahahahahaha–*cough* *cough*

*clears throat* OK, back on topic: Idarae, what do you mean the “earth was previously destroyed?” You do realize that there is no scientific evidence for that having happened, right?
