When xians try to think, run for cover…
Church Sign Causes Controversy
Pastor Roger Byrd of Jonesville Church of God put the sign up which reads “Obama Osama humm are they brothers?” Pastor Byrd says the sign is not meant to be racial or political but rather to make people think. “His name is so close to Osama I have a feeling he might be Islamic therefore he doesn’t recognize Christ,” Pastor Byrd said. Barack attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Eugunia Foster is offended by the church sign. “I’m embarrassed and hurt. I’m surprised a small town like Jonesville still has this separation. It is racial and hatred,” Foster said. Pastor Byrd told News Channel 7 he would ask his congregation to vote on whether to keep the sign. They voted unanimously to keep the sign up Sunday night. Jonesville Church of God does not have any African American members.
Praise Be! Glory!

The terms “xian logic” and “xian stupidity” are synonyms.

“His name is so close to Osama I have a feeling he might be Islamic therefore he doesn’t recognize Christ,” Pastor Byrd said.
Now you can see why they believe all the dumb fundy religion stuff! Wonderful…

I am not an Obama supporter (Not a McCain supporter either), but I do find this sign absolutely ridiculous, and how these morons who believe they have the monopoly on morality can perpetuate LIES is maddening. These people probably never even read a newspaper and just follow what their stupidass leaders tell them. It’s why idiots like Dubya are elected.
21 April 2008, on 12:23 pm
I guess Jonesville Church of God has achieved their 15 minutes of fame. Or infamy. Nice to know the whole congregation voted to be known as idiots. Well done, Jonesville! We’ll be looking for members of your congregation as winners of the coveted Darwin Awards.

A two minute search on Google found that his name is from the African Luo ethnic group from the Kenya/Tanzania area. Guess that was too much work for Pastor Byrd.
21 April 2008, on 1:03 pm
Jonesville, Jonestown? Humm any connection there?
21 April 2008, on 1:12 pm
Say goodbye to your tax exempt status Pastor Moron.
Oh, wait, the Bush IRS only investigates liberal churches for political violations.
21 April 2008, on 1:21 pm
>Jonesville, Jonestown? Humm any connection there?
That comment is made of win.
But the headline made me wonder: this is controversial? Why is anyone disputing the stupidity of this?
21 April 2008, on 1:44 pm
Jonesville, Jonestown. LMFAO!
21 April 2008, on 3:23 pm
“Are they brothers?” This is beyond stupid. A Congregation full of morons being led by an even bigger moron. My head hurts.

Speaking of stupid, Edward, of ChristianCrotchtalk fame, has taken up troll residence at NoGodBlog.
21 April 2008, on 4:34 pm
karen;
From what I’ve seen at NGB, they might as well drop the “No” part. A veritable infestation!

Speaking of stupid, Edward, of ChristianCrotchtalk fame, has taken up troll residence at NoGodBlog.
Oh gawwwd. He is such a humongous ASSHAT and total brainwashed idiot! The worst part is that he brainwashed himself!
21 April 2008, on 5:47 pm
If all men with the names Ed, Ted, and Ned are brothers, then all Christians are fucking morons.
Logic is fun when you just make shit up.
21 April 2008, on 5:56 pm
Hey, you got your hateful religion on my racist inbreds!
No, you spilled your racist inbreds in my hateful religion!
I know…Let’s try it!

I know. NGB is MUCH too troll tolerant. The mods aren’t as on the ball as they are here, and apparently only Dave takes on the responsibility of banning trolls. *sigh*
21 April 2008, on 8:14 pm
Hey, Byrd and turd sound alike…..connection? I think so!
21 April 2008, on 11:18 pm
I know who Obama and Osama are , but who’s this “Humm” guy that Reverend Byrd is asking rhetorical questions of? (cue high-hat)
“Pastor Byrd says the sign is not meant to be racial or political but rather to make people think”.
Trying to make people think? C’mon Mr. Byrd, we know better; you’re a pastor–the last thing you want people doing is thinking– if they did, you’d lose your congregation.
The sad thing is, this sign isn’t even original material–Lush Rambo was farting this non-sense out of his amalgamated ass-mouth orifice over a year ago.
BTW Villaine–that is fucking prize material.
I really wouldn’t care about this, because no one that takes this billboard seriously was going to vote for Obama anyway, but damn, the stupid is so painful…
After seeing this, does anyone here really wonder why about half of the American population doesn’t “believe” in evolution?
22 April 2008, on 7:33 am
Fritzy:
Why don’t they believe in evolution? Because it hasn’t happened to anyone in their family.
22 April 2008, on 9:24 am
Fritzy,
Reminds me of the ridiculous “debate” question that Ms. Avg. ‘Merikan asked “Do you believe in the american flag.”
Believe in it? You mean does it exist? Or are you asking if I think it has magic patriot powers?
WTF?
They question the belief of things that are physically and materially accessible but they’ve got complete faith in a magic invisible sky daddy just waiting in the wings for the secret moment when he’s going to jump out, yell surprise and cut the rapture cake.
Oy.
If only stupid like that DID burn.
22 April 2008, on 9:33 am
I dunno…a possible sign variation?
GifS Choich of the FSM (?)
BYRD BIRD
HUMM [maybe a C and F# interval?]
ARE THEY STUPID
Well…at least BYRD certainly is!
I know, I know…pretty lame…but…
I’D definitely give Pastor Byrd the ‘bird’ for being so fucking lame-ass.
And Bob?…I’d say it’s for certain that “Xian Logic” is an obvious oxymoron!
Hmmm [Humm?]…In the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster…
wouldn’t Pastor Byrd be referred to (if referred to at all)…
Pasta Byrd?
You know…as in:
“Pasta Byrd, please!…And then, if you’d be so kind…
Pasta cranberry sauce!”
Oh yeah…Happy “Earth Day” everyone!

OurLady of Perpetual Motion
he’s going to jump out, yell surprise and cut the rapture cake.
I just spat coffee on my desk! I think I’m going to be chuckling for hours over that mental imagery.

Jonesville Church of God does not have any African American members.
Nor will they.
22 April 2008, on 8:59 pm
“he’s going to jump out, yell surprise and cut the rapture cake.”
Mmmm, rapture cake! I hope rapture cake is not shitty day-old sponge cake. (Somehow, I suspect that “rapture cake” has as much substance as the”cake” my sister served her Raggedy Ann doll at her “tea parties” when she was 6.)
I know that when a lot of people type “LOL” they don’t really LOL out loud. In this instance, Our Lady, I did indeed LOL and I thank you for making my day. And, yes, like it our not, “rapture cake” will now be a permanent part of my lexicon.
If stupid like this did burn, we could break our dependence on foreign oil forever. Unfortunately, I suspect the stench would be unbearable.

You really need to watch the video on the linked page (and more to the point listen to Pastor Byrd’s voice). He really sounds like your stereotypical mouthbreather…

Jonesville South Carolina. Note median income.
Sounds like a place where thoughts go to die.

Sadly, this story could be used to smear anyone who has real differences with Obama’s actual policy positions. As someone who is opposed to Obama for real reasons (nuclear energy, healthcare, religious fanaticism, etc…) I would like to distance myself from these schmucks. Porbably didnt need to make that so clear here, so I’m sorry if anyone feels patronized.
What this is first and foremost is an illegal breech of tax law, laws that are already ridiculously generous to churches. To clearly articulate, Obama’s name (I dare not type the entire thing for fear of being called intolerant) has Islamic Origins. However the origins of one’s name shouldnt say anything about a person. I do think it is important however, in the name of honesty, not to be tempted into a name calling game by this. In reality this story has nothing to do with “race” not that there is any proof of at least. Likewise, we have no evidence for inbreeding amongst the congregation. Let’s not take away from the real negative aspects of these people – breaking tax law and drawing false lines of comparison.

^ “However the origins of one’s name shouldnt say anything about a person.”
Agreed! My first name is xian/biblical, and has nothing whatsoever to do with my personal beliefs and everything to do with my mother’s like of it. I know some people make the effort to change their names to fit their belief system, but that’s way too much trouble for me (plus, I like my first name – and I’ve had it all my life so far!).
Oh noes! I guess that means I really am a xian no matter what I don’t believe in!
