No God
8 May 2008 by StardustMany of our problems on this planet are human fault. Gotta have our big cars, gotta have all our electricity, our garbage piles high. We don’t think about it because we won’t be here…let the next generations worry about it. People killing other people. Greed. War. Violence. All caused by humans and only humans can change all this. No god is going to clean up the mess.
Nature is at “fault” of most natural disaster. It’s just the way things are. NO god causes these things, no god prevents them. They just happen and no help comes from any god to clean up the mess. No messes get cleaned up unless humans intervene and take action. No god waves a magic wand and makes things all better. No god cures the cancers and disease in little children and adults, no god feeds those who are starving to death in third world countries and no god prevents the exploitation of the poor and impoverished. No god keeps a president and leaders of nations from starting wars and killing innocent people who have no say in the matter. No god prevents perverts from molesting and murdering children. No god stops the gangs from murdering, stealing and killing each other. No god comes. Humans struggle to find cures for disease. Humans attempt to fix what other humans destroy. Humans strive to sort out the messes other humans make. But no god causes it, no god cleans up the messes. . . and . . .
only humans can save humanity.

And here is an idiot response to this…saying he can prove God exists, scientifically then presents only assumptions based on lack of knowledge…so just make it up. That’s scientific alright..uh hum. Geeze…it’s always the same with these god botherers.

Believers see what they want to see. When “miracles” happen (one child out of thousands survives a mudslide), they give their god credit. But, they ignore the hundreds/thousands of others who perished.
What a racket. A god who gets all the credit but none of the blame. And yet there are millions of people who think this way and fail to see what meaningless, useless rubbish it is.
When I witness the ravishes of nature and the survivors and decedants, its sheer randomness and meaningless is both awe-inspiring and fearsome. Yet, not fearsome in in an “angry god” way.
Fearsome in the sense that we are not in control. We are lowly, if thinking, species that have somewhat protected ourselves ala our institutional structures and societal orders. But, when it comes right down to it, we are as much subject to nature as ever.
But, we have not outgrown our need to find cause in the ravages of nature. We instinctively try to create order (in our minds) out of disorder. There must be a reason as to why some nations perish in floods and volcanos; and others do not. Etc.

I agree with the sentiment, and the images are compelling, but the song itself is really, really terrible.

MK (you have my initials, that’s so friggin cool!), that sounds a lot like what people who believe that people like John Edwards (not the former VP candidate) are actually psychic because they ignore the large amounts of misses or half misses in favor of all the hits.
But this is a very sobering thought, much like when one comes to terms with what death actually means. It’s a humbling thing.

castletonsnob, the post wasn’t about the song, it was the message. The video is just an addition to what I wrote. It isn’t supposed to entertain, but to make people think about what we are doing, and how we are not doing enough to try to change things. How we just keep going along as we are, living life, wanting to be entertained while humanity destroys itself.
Thanks for commenting though and if you find a better video to go along with this, then please post the link.

As a member of the choir message-wise, I , too, found myself forced to think about the “I live in a dream world, where I sound just like Wayne Coyne” singing and the “Hey, guys, I learned my third chord!”” strumming.
I know, it’s nitpicky. But I’m a musical snob and a former professional musician. The music here sounded like something the “band” plays at those megachurches and everyone raises their arms to sing along.
Nice vid, though.
Try this one.

Raindog, good pissed off one!
I found a Randy Newman video and replaced the one cheesy one ya’ll didn’t like.
This new one pretty well illustrates that if humans don’t do something, we are all pretty well screwed because there is no god to help…or if there is a god, he hates us.
8 May 2008, on 11:33 am
LOL…ya’ll should check out the asshat who thinks he can prove god exists SCIENTIFICALY. His video of the guy’s first hand account of hell is priceless, too
8 May 2008, on 12:04 pm
Shoot, I got up too late and missed the “crappy” video! I’m glad I had at least a little coffee in me when I watched RDZ’s Slayer vid.
I was fantacizing that it would be cool to sneak the Randy Newman vid onto all the big screens in all the megachurches across the country and simul-play it some Sunday morning…
8 May 2008, on 12:39 pm
Yeah, Stardust…nicely said.
I’ve never been a big fan of Randy Newman, who “sho do lak to sound black”; another born whitey song writer who wished he’d been born black?
(I’m partly kidding, folks…don’t jump on me! I’m just an old, somewhat tired musician who’s sung & played WAY more than my share of various “baloneys”!)
In this case, however, considering the video’s message, I think Randy’s tune, and simple, ’soulful’ performance, are quite effective. It would seem, he’s long ago left his probable Jewish religious roots (I’m guessing!) in favor of a definite atheistic outlook. I could be totally wrong, of course.
Tangentially…considering the very recent “Burma” tragedy, this video fits perfectly!
Thanks, Stardust, for both your spot-on Post’s message…AND…for a nice bit of video researching!
By the way…what’s with the recent, strange text stuff ala:
don’t…“fault ???
Is that just MY Firefox errors?
8 May 2008, on 12:49 pm
Ive never been a big fan of Randy Newman,
Ok…I am NOT changing it again Chuck!
Yes, Randy Newman has stated openly many times that he is an atheist.
8 May 2008, on 12:51 pm
By the waywhats with the recent, strange text stuff ala:
don’t“fault ???
I have no idea. Anyone else who isn’t using Firefox having this show up all screwy like this?
(Weird it only shows it like that when I click on the post to comment, otherwise it looks fine on the main page. This is really strange.)
I sent an email to Ron asking him to please investigate.
8 May 2008, on 1:04 pm
^ Yeah Stardust, I’ve been getting it on all your comments and posts on my screen, usually for quotation marks.
8 May 2008, on 1:06 pm
^^ wtf…why is it doing that? Is gawd fucking with me?
8 May 2008, on 1:09 pm
“Yes, Randy Newman has stated openly many times that he is an atheist.”
OK…I’ve changed my mind, Stardust…like…
“He’s a lumberjack, and he’s OK?”
And…RE:
By the waywhats with the recent, strange text stuff ala:
don’t“fault ???
Are we under attack by some subversive “Fundie Hacker Fuckers”?
Yeah…who(m) do we call? Ron? or maybe…
“Hackbusters”?…or…”Fuckerbusters”?
I dunno…the latter kind of rolls of my tongue, very nicely!
8 May 2008, on 1:24 pm
I haven’t had any of the !#$!#$! stuff happen to me - maybe god likes me…
8 May 2008, on 1:49 pm
Yeah, I’m getting that stuff, too. I’m not surprised…its probably Microsoft’s way of trying to force me to upgrade to Vista, lol…
8 May 2008, on 2:53 pm
I think Benjamin’s really on to something.
On a totally other Microsoft related, rather mundane note…
With all the frequent Microsoft dowloads on shutdown; I’ve been thinking along the same lines as Benjamin.
[Anyone else noticing those almost daily, mysterious and suspicious, "Don't shut off your Computer" downloads? WTF's goin' on, Mr. Gates?]
Maybe unbeknownst to us longtime Vista resisters, they’re gradually ‘evolving’ our resident XP versions into some quivering, feeble, back-boneless, pre-Vista subserviant clones. Did Bill Gates inadvertently hire a bunch of totally un-hip Fundy-like tech fuckheads in recent years?
I recently eked out a tight budget purchase of a very nice HP notebook; which unfortunately (no choice) had Vista installed…YUK!
I tried doing the usual dual boot install of XP…No luck! Then, in frustration, subsequently wiped out Vista & replaced it totally with XP; but, alas, none of the hardware…like SOUND, frn’stance…would work. Even after installing the HP acquired XP drivers! Lots of chasing after advice, no less. I was forced, very reluctantly, to restore the notebook to factory condition. I’m now considering trying to install XP on a “Virtual drive” to see if that might work.
Vista, in my opinion, r-e-a-l-l-y SUCKS! So many GREAT older programs and hardware just won’t install on it.
In my opinion, it’s a de-evolving case of numbnut Corporate dumbness and…GREED?…that instead of building upon the already significantly better qualities of the XP OS, they fucked everyone over by coming out with the totally bullshit Vista.
Yeah…another “AARGH!” subject matter!
I’d possibly go MAC, but can’t afford THEIR greedy prices on computers; not to mention the software issue.
C’est la vie?

Good one by Bad Religion
Striking at mental apparitions
Like a drunk on a vacant street
Silently beset by the hands of time
Indelicate in its fury
An aberrant crack as skeletons yield
To unrelenting gravity
While viruses prowl for helpless victims
Who succumb rapidly
(Tell me!) Tell me; where is the love?
In a careless creation
When theres no above
Theres no justice
Just a cause and a cure
And a bounty of suffering
It seems we all endure
And what Im frightened of
Is that they call it Gods love
Twisted torment, make-believe
Theres a truth and we all submit
Believe my eyes, my brain complies
To all that they interpret
[Chorus]
I know theres no reason for alarm
But who needs perspective when it comes to pain and harm
We can change our minds; theres a better prize
But first youve got to
[Chorus]
They call it Gods love
My pain is Gods love

Hmmm. I tried a test in Bob’s post, and didn’t get the symbols. The problem in my post was with quotes, apostrophes, degree symbols and dashes. Star’s seems to be the same, sans degree symbols, as she didn’t use any.
I’m using Firefox. Is Bob?
8 May 2008, on 4:07 pm
^
Also, my problem came with material I cut and pasted, but not with what I typed myself.

If you use Word’s slanted or curly apostrophe or quote symbols instead of ’straight’ apostrophe or quotes, the browsers can’t interpret them and renders them as question marks. The quickest way to avoid it is to paste any copied text into notepad then select/copy/paste where you want it to go. Notepad usually (I have known instances where it hasn’t worked) automatically changes curly quote/apostrophe to straight.

Joules…I think you may be right about the notepad shtick.
I use notepad all the time for 1st draft stuff…especially for emails. I’ve lost a lot of work in the past when I DIDN’T use notepad; like when a crash occurs writing an email on Yahoo, or whatever…even Firefox occasionally crashes, and then you’ve wasted a lot of time and effort. It’s VERY rare, in my experience, that notepad crashes.
On that note, I also suggest to anyone, saving notepad as you, to prevent ANY loss of work.
Unfortunately, Spell check doesn’t work in notepad; but after you paste into GifS, you can edit.
For ‘fancy’ stuff; I suggest either Wordpad; or MS Word [with grammar AND spellcheck etc.]
Yeah…another one of those “D’uh” suggestions!…?

Now that I’m watching my blood pressure much more closely…
Doing the above shtick, does, additionally, cut down on those nasty and annoying “anger” and frustration producing incidents.
Happy weekend, everyone!
9 May 2008, on 10:58 am
…as you go…
I also suggest re-reading your shtick!!!
9 May 2008, on 3:21 pm
Joules, thanks for the info. I type right into the WordPress “write” and comment boxes. I am having the problem copying from part of the site and other people’s comments and pasting them into new comment boxes. It seems that I am getting this problem only when copying and pasting even though I don’t use Word. (Scratches head.)
10 May 2008, on 8:30 am
Stardust:
I’m assuming that GifS is on Wordpress, then? Looking at the site, the apostrophes and quotes are slanted rather than straight, so I’d guess that the actual software uses different coding than standard html (I find this is a real hassle across the different forums I haunt: every single one seems to use a different posting format!) If you copy/paste direct from the page, that formatting usually carries over and renders as ? when you look at it online.
The pasting into notepad then c/p-ing into should solve that - I hope.
(Just in case anyone didn’t know, you can change from ’smart’ (curly) quotes to straight quotes in Word/Tools/AutoCorrect options/Autoformat, then all your .docs will have straight quotes/apostrophes. Useful for anyone - like me - who does a lot of webwork.)

I apologize for the tone of my original comment about the music, Stardust. I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to present my criticism in a more thoughtful and constructive way. As I said, I agreed with the sentiment, but the first song was very difficult to listen to, in my opinion.
I don’t think I’ve commented here before, but I visit often. Please keep up the great work, all of you.

castletonsnob, Thanks for reading and commenting. I know what you mean about the first song. It caught my attention because of the visual more than the audio…but the new one works just as well and the lyrics are better.
Hope you stay around and continue to jump in on the discussions!
