Priest Pushes Obama Supporters to Confession
A California pastor told his parishioners to attend confessional if they had voted for President-elect Barack Obama because of his stance on abortion, the McClatchy Tribune reported. The Rev. Joseph Illo, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Modesto, Calif., said voting for a pro-choice candidate amounted to a punishable sin. “If you are one of the 54 percent of Catholics who voted for a pro-abortion candidate, you were clear on his position and you knew the gravity of the question, I urge you to go to confession before receiving communion. Don’t risk losing your state of grace by receiving sacrilegiously,” Illo wrote in a letter dated Nov. 21. Illo sent the letter to more than 15,000 members of his parish, one of 34 parishes in the Stockton diocese. Illo also delivered this message in a homily, the Modesto Bee reported.

The more this type of thing happens, the better. I suspect that a certain number of those Christians who voted for Obama are probably already fence-sitters, philosophically speaking, and enough of this type of treatment from the church leadership may just cause them to consider quoting the title of this post to those leaders.

The French had a cure for this silly nonsense. I discovered it when I was 15 or 16. It is called existentialism and along with black clothes and teenage angst, existentialism cause. my parents to quit bugging me about going to church.
Well that and my telling not only them but the kids in my weekly brain washing session called religion that there was no god.

Umm, I thought McStain was against changing roe v wade? I keep hearing about these catolick bastards condemning the flock to eating “defiled” communion crackers for voting for Obama, but I thought McStain was a big advocate of states rights, who thinkds a constitutional amendment against R v W is a bad idea. You’re not pro-life if you think it’s ok to murder foreigners in their own homes because you watch too much fucking jack bauer on tv. It’s not pro-life to put mentally handicapped people to death in prison. It’s not pro-life to perpetuate a system that allows people to die slow, painful, lingering deaths on the floor of a waiting room in a hospital. It’s no pro-life to maintain backward ideas about women’s personal health issues. It’s not pro-life when the so called ’spiritual’ leaders incite their sheeple to violence and hatred of “the other” because they don’t share the same fairy tale beliefs.

If they were even a little bit pro-life they might be out there trying to make a difference in the lives of those being tortured, displaced and killed by their government’s amoral war. But no. The thing is, it’s a lot easier to feel good about yourself by attending a pro-life rally a couple of times a year with a pre-printed placcard and shout righteously idignant epitephs at pregnant teens entering a clinic than it is to seriously address any of the social injustices you mentioned.

I’m with Ourlady on the subject of Jack Bauer: maybe it just so happens to be on the few occasions I tune into the show, but it seems that every time I do, all that’s taking place is another elaborate attempt to justify torture. I get the impression that its writers feel that a season of 24 isn’t complete without at least one sequence in which Jack just absolutely has to torture someone to save America. They have the right to air it, of course, but I refuse to watch it.
