Commentary, news, and rants on the evils and stupidity of belief in the big invisible daddy in the sky. Illuminating and watchdogging the widespread attempts to institutionalize the theocratic rule of the US. Making fun of believers everywhere.

The fucking christians at fox don't want me to watch the snow because I'm not American ... well technically I am American, North American, but that's a bitch for another day. To be fair to the christians at fox, the other american networks do this too.

And the real peeve is that I *do* pay for those freaking american networks on my cable bill. Fscking christians.

<i>men who profess to be wise in secular, as well as religious matters, have lost sight of the source of true wisdom and knowledge </i>

Yes, Geoff, this is why science is such a marvellous tool. The truly humble man will seek wisdom and knowledge through constantly testing his understanding with experiments and observation, always revising his perceptions based on the evidence he is able to secure through such experiments and observation. Most scientists understand that this is an ongoing process with no end in sight.

I'm not sure if the quote applies to me since I am a woman, but I don't profess to be wise. The longer I live the more ignorant I feel.

^ ^ Geoff...reading that "bold-faced" excerpt reminds me of just how incredibly "high and mighty" the instigators of religious bullcrap are in all their arrogant sounding writings. One can only imagine just how much painstaking time was spent on crafting, and spewing out the original delusional "Scriptures"; ala, of course, the two most incredibly mind bending, and ultimately dangerous examples...
the Bible and Koran.
"Holy Word"?...more like Wholly (Insane) Wordplay!
And then all the myriad translators and theo(il)logical commentators come along to take what was bad enough in the original, to new, ever more insidious warped and mind bending heights of intellectual gibberish.
All the while, of course, maintaining the long practiced, tried and true, "Guilt and Fear", mind control tactics bent on controlling the ignorant masses.
In my opinion, if Mankind has any long term, realistically viable future on this rather precarious Planet, their self-righteous, self appointed lofty, metaphorical pedestals most definitely need to be critically and constantly exposed, attacked, and eventually...and hopefully...PERMANENTLY torn down. Therein lies a somewhat "noble" task, I think, for all of us atheists, especially those who have children, to participate in; whatever time we have left in our individual lives.

In an age of infidelity, atheism, and hypocrisy, men who profess to be wise in
secular, as well as religious matters, have lost sight of the source of true wisdom and knowledge
'Because that, when they knew God they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but be-
came vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise
they become fools.' (Rom. 1:21,22.) Even those who profess to be teachers of righteousness,
have forfeited their faith in the biblical reckoning of creation. <b>God having knowledge of the present decep-
tive denial of His holy Word, has devised a prophetic blue-print in symbols of beasts, wings, ribs, horns,
heads, crowns, etc., by which He points out in this prophetic panorama, the facts, with a force that
SHOULD humiliate men and show them their utter ignorance and lack of wisdom."</b> Shepherd's Rod, Vol.
2, p. 41.

This is from the book that the Branch Davidian faith was founded on. Thought it was a good summary of all that is wrong in the thought process of biblical intellectualism.

I don't watch a lot of television, but I love House. I love his sarcasm. And yes, it does pander to atheists, and the way it's done is a hoot! House says things that I would love to say to people when they start their god crap.

House MD is definitely one of the best shows on TV today. And it panders to us Atheists quite a bit, which makes it even more entertaining.

You might like House a little if you watched it. I haven't seen that particular episode, but I can think of at least two other episodes that deal with religion. The writers for the show do a surprisingly good job of portraying House as an atheist. He isn't really the typical media atheist. Most of the time if someone is an atheist in a movie it's because they lost their faith due to bad things happening, and then they end up regaining their faith at some point. House is portrayed as an atheist who bases his opinion based on the lack of evidence for god, and similar more rational arguments.
Not to mention, in the newer episodes one of the characters is a mormon and he's constantly cracking polygamy jokes at him.

ChuckA,
I loved "Black Adder"! Hilarious!
We have a great comedy show up here in Canada called "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" and they did a skit based on "House". House asks the nurse about the medical test results for a seriously ill patient to which she replies that the tests can't be done until the next available appointment in 2 months.
