Shame on the Catholic Church once again

Where is the outrage from the Catholic Church about this? The victims will probably get another lameass and meaningless apology from Pope Ratzi, like that is supposed to magically make things okay.

Catholic Church shamed by Irish abuse report

DUBLIN – After a nine-year investigation, a commission published a damning report Wednesday on decades of rapes, humiliation and beatings at Catholic Church-run reform schools for Ireland’s castaway children.

The 2,600-page report painted the most detailed and damning portrait yet of church-administered abuse in a country grown weary of revelations about child molestation by priests.

The investigation of the tax-supported schools uncovered previously secret Vatican records that demonstrated church knowledge of pedophiles in their ranks all the way back to the 1930s.

Wednesday’s five-volume report on the probe — which was resisted by Catholic religious orders — concluded that church officials shielded their orders’ pedophiles from arrest amid a culture of self-serving secrecy.

“A climate of fear, created by pervasive, excessive and arbitrary punishment, permeated most of the institutions and all those run for boys. Children lived with the daily terror of not knowing where the next beating was coming from,” Ireland’s Commission to Inquire Into Child Abuse concluded.

Victims of the abuse, who are now in their 50s to 80s, lobbied long and hard for an official investigation. They say that for all its incredible detail, the report doesn’t nail down what really matters — the names of their abusers.

The entire horrible story can be found here.

When are the Irish finally going to tell the fucking church to eat shit and die??? They should be attacking every institution of the church, seizing the churches property, and killing the priests and Nuns involved! Until they stand up for themselves, don’t come crying to me! THE KATHOLICKASS CHURCH IS A SHIT STAIN ON HUMANITY!

  2. St. Michael:

Hey, Bill Donahue…. where the fuck is your OUTRAGE NOW? Too BUSY writing about some stupid movie, you dumb mother-fucker??? Or, is your head up your ass again so you don’t have to look at the real devastation your fucking church has yet again caused?

  3. Inari:

Those who were abused, I feel sorry for.

At this point, however, any and all future abuses I blame on the ‘victims.’ With all of this evidence, Catholics have no one to blame but themselves. I don’t blame the children, of course, but their parents deserve blame. Quite frankly, I think that any parent who sends their children to a Catholic institution is guilty of child abuse.

If this horrendous report doesn’t wake people up, I have no idea what will. It is so clear that the catholic church only has two kinds of officials – those who abuse children and those who protect those who abuse children. If this had been any other kind of institution (i.e., a supermarket chain or a fast food franchise), those responsible would have been dragged out to the street and hanged.

I had the misfortune to be raised as a catholic myself. But by the time I reached the age of 12, I realized it was all bullshit. I have three young sons now and I can promise you that I will NEVER allow them to attend church.

    Wow!…St. Michael?
    Spoken like a true…Archangel? Or…
This story has sure ruffled your angelic feathers, huh?
    [I'm kidding, aren't I?]
I don’t think killing the priests and nuns, outright, is “the way to go”; many of them are probably long gone (already dead!), of course. But, certainly, with more detailed investigations, all those involved, who are still living, should definitely be prosecuted to the fullest.
With the, ever-so-common, ’short attention span’ of the public; the Church will probably just shrug this all off by keeping as low a profile as possible in the news cycle. The story, it seems to me, is already, unfortunately, being overshadowed by all the Obama/Cheney flack, etc. And, precisely because it plays into the overall anti-religion mood which is STILL traditionally, in the US at least, downplayed by the media, I don’t think much will really change. I actually hope I’m wrong on that point.

Yeah, this is one more personal reminder of my “yute”; having gone through the Chicagoland Catholic schools from kindergarten through University level (ca. 1945-1960s).
My mother came from Ireland in the late 1920s; and she’s the real reason I was raised Catholic.
I actually had a pretty enjoyable and rather uneventful experience in my educational trek; and I’d say, a pretty good education, too.
The only weird experience I remember…quite vividly…was in my Sophomore High School Latin class; I had a Christian Brother teacher who kept students after school hours if, for example, a translation assignment wasn’t done on the given day. On one occasion, after finishing the translation, and having made a few mistakes, he had me slung over his lap, whilst he stuck a pin in my ‘bum’ for any uncorrected mistakes. (a prick for each mistake?…Yeah…what a prick?) It was done, however, with a certain humorous (camouflage?); and because I had such respect for his being a member of the Christian Brothers, I didn’t make a big deal of it…at the time. Also, during that time period, I had no real practical psychological knowledge, which would have pegged him immediately as some kind of sadist. Now, of course, I realize that religions ARE sado-masochist…by their very nature.
A long time later, at my 25th High School reunion, back in 1982, I did find out he had left the Order…for whatever reasons.

“Tangentially” (That IS a very useful word for an atheist, isn’t it?)…
This also reminds me of something which was brought home to me at the 50th H.S. reunion in May, 2007. There was much ado about the whole school “Mission” tradition in all the talks preceeding the Class of ‘57 dinner; and at one point a comment was made referencing a passage from the Bible; at which time I blurted out something atheistic, which I can’t remember the content of now, and looked, a bit self-consciously, around to see if anybody close to me noticed. Nobody gave any indication; but a couple of my close friends, that were sitting close me, probably heard it, but they already knew, somewhat, about my being an atheist.
My reason for bringing this up is that, at least in my experience, VERY few people of my generation who’ve gone all the way through the amount of indoctrination that I had, have managed to break away from the amazingly powerful mind control.
You see it popping up, often, in the broadcast media…even somewhat younger people like Paul Begala, Rick Sanchez, Chris Matthews, etc.; who very often bring up the fact that they’re Catholic, with no additional apologetic phrase like…
“but, I no longer attend Church, or swallow the official dogmas”, or…better yet?…
“I’ve completely given up believing in any fucking (or non-fucking) tyrannical gods…yada, yada!”
Of course…that really would scare the “BeJeebus” out of their “handlers” and stir up a lot of viewers.
Actually, I’m waiting for something like that to happen.
Olbermann, though I don’t think he’s Catholic, seems right on the edge, sometimes, of blurting out…
“I’m a full-blown atheist!…Put that in your pipe and choke on it…any of you who are STILL delusional, fucking brainwashed religious assholes!” ?

  6. karen:

Round up any living offenders and anyone involved in the cover-up.
Handcuff them together in a circle in the Vatican Cathedral with Il Papa in the center.
    Set them on fire.

Oh wait…before the fire, take all the valuables out and sell them and give the proceeds to the victims.

  7. Ron Hager:

Now if we could just have a similar investigation & report for Italy and the other Catholic countries. After that, perhaps an investigation & report on the Mormons in Utah.

  8. Stardust:

Now if we could just have a similar investigation & report for Italy and the other Catholic countries.

How about every country where Catholics have a lot of power and control? Even here in the US of A. I imagine now that all these people have come forward in Ireland it may encourage victims in other countries to come forward and speak up, as well. The Catholic church is sinking itself.

I bet we would find out all kinds of weirdass stuff concerning the Mormons. They already have problems with marrying off youngsters to old men, etc.

  9. St. Michael:

I’m so happy that I’ve made some people mad! ;-) I’d also be happy to perfom some of the executions! Let’s start with Poop Nazinger, WITH his insistance in Africa recently, that CONDOMS DO NO GOOD IN STOPPING THE SPREAD OF AIDS! Let’s at least inject the M0-Fo with the Virus!

  10. fester60613:

Systemic cover ups – priests reassigned if necessary – the church protects “its own” rather than its innocent children – as of today no word from the Poop.

I’m not sure I want – as others seem to do – these malevolent assholes killed, but it really would be extremely satisfying to see the police march into some church, drag the bishop from the altar and walk him down the aisle and out into the bright sunshine IN CHAINS.

Where are the civil authorities? Why aren’t these abusers in jail? Why aren’t these bishops being rounded up and indicted?

  11. Bronze Dog:

I’m pretty well with you, fester. Being a witch doctor shouldn’t grant criminals immunity to legitimate community outrage and the rule of law.
